It's been a few years since I read it, but my theory at the time was he saw the future when he transformed, and he needed guts to survive for some reason so he made the baby who has saved guts life several times already.He always wanted to be the hero the Charming Prince and so I think he is setting up guts to be a big bad in the public eye so he can defeat him, or so that guts can kill the other hands so he would be the only one.

Theres two readings that arent mutually exclusive>An expression of his inferiority complex toward guts. When he got rescued from prison he noticed tat Guts and Casca were an item now and it was like the ultimate expression of Guts superiority to Griffith because Guts not only beat him in a duel but managed to win the affection of the person that used to admire Griffith more than anyone else. Raping Casca was a way of reasserting his superiority over guts by getting back what Guts "stole" from him>repressed homo love, he wants to rape guts by proxy through raping casca
