After giving this series a try, all I can say is that Index is a mediocre at best early 2000s LN battle harem that only gets more attention because the MC punches girls.Railgun is a spinoff that focuses on another set of characters, but whether it's the battle mango or the cute grills doing cute things animu, neither is particularly worth getting into from what I experienced (although the animu is admittedly terrible while the mango is probably the best thing to come out of the Indexverse).
