I criticized previous chapter for too much stating but this one was more reasonable with it and the characters were actually affirming their conviction to each other so it made sense. I think it's short but sweet, we knew Hanzo from legends, we only barely met Mifune with his samurai background, but just that is enough to create this nice and somewhat heartwarming duel and bond between these two. Like, Naruto is about bonds, well I think this one is more convincing and interesting (spared by a guy who saw your conviction, then returning decades later to reignite his) than a lot of the rest.

You realize Rock Lee moving short distances faster than he eye can see is not that fast when you know to 2 millisecond human threshold. If Lee moves 15 feet in 0.1 seconds, he is only moving 150mph, which would make him look like he is teleporting because the human eye can't capture the motion blur beyond 2 miliseconds when comparing the distance from the focal point of the eye and the start/stop points of the figure.

gourds represent resilience in jp culture since they're hard to sink. hollow gourds would always pop back up after being pushed down in water.
it fits gaara's character since he was initially someone who refused to die and was hard to kill.

as a side note, gourds are also known for sucking up negative energy. it's a superstitious belief.
it explains where the idea of sucking up people/things with a gourd comes from like in journey to the west and the gold/silver brothers.

i think that might also explain why gaara's shukaku transformation has his sand coming out of his gourd to cover him. it's like the negative energy is coming out, but i might be reaching i guess.
there's also some idea of a bigger creature manifesting from a gourd from the story about chokaro sennin who could summon a horse from his gourd.

and there was toyotomi hideyoshi who used the gourd as a sign of victory. he and his men would also apparently carry gourds on their backs when going into battle and then piercing them with their spears and raising them to let others know it was safe to come.
so there is some idea of warriors carrying gourds on their backs and also representing victory.

It's also people not understanding how fast light speed is, saying things like "It's combat speed, not movement speed." If you are capable of 'moving at light speed' for even the tiniest fraction of time, even just for 0.01 seconds, that is enough time to travel tens of thousands of miles, it is so ridiculously fast that it is several orders of magnitude faster than anything that is actually represented in the manga at any time. You need a good balance tho. If you have solid expectations of what your characters can and cannot do, you can create stakes by putting them against an opponent that is clearly superior. A the same time, you also need wiggle room to surprise the viewer with certain outcomes. Generally I prefer when mc beats someone stronger through tactics or teamwork. Sudden burts of power out of nowhere are only fun a few times.

heck yeah, that's partially why i enjoyed part 1 naruto so much. part 2 makes the fights seem more linear and powerlevel based minus a few moments. don't get me wrong, it makes sense too that some characters would outclass others to the point said characters can't do anything to them, but the fights feel less "fun" overall when everything is strictly power based. not that all strategy fights are necessarily good either. shikamaru vs. hidan was a low point. but, you get what i mean, anon.

for me, i liked most of naruto's chuunin exam fights. they really honed in on his unpredictable nature.

naruto vs. kiba was great for naruto's strategy in using transformation jutsu to look like akamaru and make kiba think he hit akamaru. i don't think the fart should've been the thing to do kiba in but it did make sense why it would debilitate him and it made sense for naruto's comic relief nature.

i think naruto vs. neji is great to some extent but i've come to think that neji not being able to see naruto through the ground is a hole. neji can essentially see through other objects so why not the ground? and it gets a little carried away with the exposition.
but it was relatively entertaining still.

naruto vs. gaara is great too but the unclearness of gaara's powers and inconsistency hold it back.

yashamaru's paper bombs don't work but naruto's do? still overall like it though.
having friends to protect gives you adrenaline power but it holds back gaara later in part 2?
