>Has one of the most broken and overpowered cheats of any isekai protag, literally cannot die
>The author has to make him retarded and mentally ill so he doesn't breeze through everything
Is this actually a genius way to not make the mc too op?
>>
>>288651677
He cant abuse his power because he canonically goes insane if he does. Read Ayamatsu
>>
>couldn't figure out a decent plot so they just randomly wiped the mc's memories
really?
>>
>>288651677
>literally cannot die
Pretty sure the story and the villains it chooses for him kind of subvert this. In the second arc (I think it was) he's affected by a magical curse and literally cannot live and doesn't have a framework for why he's dying. That sort of thing is terrifying.
>>
The mental illness is spreading from the original work to the fans.
>>
>>288652086
That was the main reason I gave up on the anime, anything involving memory wipe is inherently lazy and the mark of a hack unless the author REALLY knows what they are doing with it and tappei is not that person.
>>
>>288652086
>>288654109
Memory loss either needs to be central to the story since the beginning or just some extremely temporary thing. It's used poorly when it's just an excuse for the author to keep the status quo because he doesn't know where to take the story, he's a hack writer, and needs to milk out 10 more volumes

Yes its that bad.

>>288651766
The fundamental problem is HE doesn't know that and there is no way for him to know that. So the only given explanation for why he doesnt try to abuse his powers is hes retarded and mentally ill.

Really amusing to see so many on this board try and defend this abysmal choice.
>>
>>288651677
RBD is insanely overrated as a power. It’s been directly countered in every single arc of Rezero. Subaru almost loses in arc 6, 7 and 9. And if you don’t have the correct mentality it’s essentially useless, like how greed if Subaru spent hundreds of years looping over stupid shit and staying stagnant forever. You essentially need to be insane and keep your humanity at the same time or you’ll just end up as some inhuman psycho doing dumb crazy shit for the rest of your life.
>>
>>288654369
>RBD means you cannot lose
>its overrated
See this is why a retarded MC appeals to so many on this board. Oh and its easy as hell to exploit to become the most OP character ever.
>>
>>288654668
You didn’t even counter any of my points. Anyways muscle memory isn’t kept in between loops so their is no point in training your muscles, even then everyone in the Rezero verse automatically has extra inhumane strength due to having mana in their bodies which Subaru doesn’t have. Then the Rezero power system itself is incredibly unfair/unbalanced and getting stronger is essentially impossible since being born talented and strong > hardwork and training. Subaru could technically become OP if he was willing to kill and manipulate a lot of people. So if Subaru was evil then he would be OP. The power system is never properly explained in the anime so I’m guessing your projecting a generic fantasy power system onto Rezero when in reality it’s like being stuck on level 1 in dark souls.
>>
>>288655073
>muscle memory isnt kept
You retards keep saying this, yet 100% they ARE. As shown by his cooking and knife skills.
>others have mana while he doesnt
And? As shown blade skill can counter ludicrous differences in strength and mana.
>you didnt counter what I said
I literally did. Your ENTIRE claim is a power that makes it impossible to lose is NOT OP because he ALMOST lost. Seriously that is a retarded argument.
>>
>>288654335
No youre retarded or underage
The timeline where he abuses his power is Pride:if. The main timeline he tries to use RBD as little as possible because guess what he doesnt want to die (i know crazy right)
Theres also the possibility of getting a shitty checkpoint and have people he cares about lost forever so its not like RBD is completely safe
>>
>>288655364
>The timeline where he abuses his power is Pride
And the one we watch has no knowledge of that. You are conflating YOUR knowledge as a viewer/reader with the characters. He doesnt know ANY of that.
>He doesnt want to die
See this is yet another place you're retarded. He can vastly REDUCE the number of deaths by cycling a few times to improve his abilities. AND he can select times when his death is painless in his sleep. he just wakes up and its reset. No pain, no suffering, no nothing.

Whats your next retarded argument?
>>
>>288655527
>He can vastly REDUCE the number of deaths by cycling a few times to improve his abilities.
No he cant, a few days will have passed and the witch cult will have killed half of the cast and the checkpoint will have reset and its fucking over. Re:zero is a fucked up place where the antagonists should have won a long time ago without Subaru
Hed needs to train for like one hour to be safe then die and do that hundreds of times which is a retarded plan
>>
>>288651677
yeah imagine it's Light Yagami got isekaied instead of this obnoxious retard
It would be the first watchable isekai
>>
>>288652086
>randomly
>despite the OP literally having the three little shits in it
also memory wiping’s been a thing since s1 of this show so you should’ve just dropped it at the whale
>>
Even if you disregard the possibility for grinding, he barely even accounts for how to properly solve his problems.
If one time loop had Emilia step on a land mine and die he would try and solve it not by removing the land mine, but by screeching at Emilia, "NO DON'T GO OVER THERE!"
>>
>>288651677
>literally cannot die
*can't stay dead. The implications are horrifying, imagine not being in control of your respawn point and it's just before the Kingdom of High Autismia spreads some biogical weapon on your city. Or you have an aneurysm and you respawn each time it ruptures and no one can even figure out what's going on

Just train bro.
>>
>>288655795
>no he cant
>well actually he could but that requires hard work!
Seriously you retards cannot even make a coherent argument. Grinding IS a thing, and you admit it, yet at the same time reject it because accepting its existence would mean the MC is a sniveling little retard who doesnt even try. Cognitive dissonance is the only way to think this MC is anything but trash.

>>288658022
Healing magic exists too so he could go full broken healer training circuit. (Isekai version of steroids)
>>
>>288656009
He wouldn’t even tell her, and the plot would imply that Subaru would somehow get in trouble for doing so. So he spends the entire episode trying to distract Emilia from leaving the house at all, only for Ram to step on the landmine at the end of the episode anyway.
>>
>>288651677
Multiple characters tell you that you can't shake off "dying". Louis tried and look what happened.
>>
>>288658022
>immediately recognizes return by death as a training opportunity
>repeats loops 100s of times just to get a little better
>ferryman of death goads him into finally accepting the sweet embrace
>"Nah, I'll just train more."
Kek every time.
>>
>>288658022
You're either recognize that death has or don't have weight.

If you're the former, watch Re:Zero.
If you're the latter, read GooKnight.
>>
>>288655931
Go watch death note then you sapiosexual gay faggot
>"What if the MC was... Le Goku!!! And invincible! It would be so much better!!"

Are you retarded?
>>
>>288651677
>overpowered cheats of any isekai protag, literally cannot die
not to mention built-in time travel; arguably much better than just pure immortality -- even though he can't decide when it'll "save".
it's still rife for exploiting, he could conceivably learn almost anything about anything/anyone if he could champion through death after death.

maybe why subaru doesn't/can't is because the save points are so uncertain he could be in the middle of an exploit, kill himself and then have a save point 0.1 seconds before he dies and just loop it infinitely like an even worse version of diavolo. the chance of that occuring might be very small but loop 1000s of times intentionally and it might.
>>
>>288654148
Wait, you're telling me he's not getting his memories back at the end of this arc?
If so, will anyone know he forgot everything? Or will he just "remember" through reading the books?
>>
>>288660161
He’s getting them back halfway into next cour
>>
>>288658323
>50 loops of other people stepping on the land mine or him diving on it for them before he realizes he can just invisible hand it
>>
>>288655931
Light Yagami is a retard who managed to get caught despite having a perfect murder tool and getting multiple other cheats on top of that. He just loves the smell of his own farts, so people who can't look at facts believe hims smart.
>>
>>288651677
thats what the author does in the IF side-stories, make him competent and it turns into a power fantasy
>>
>>288660398
Do you mean this whole season? It's gonna have 19 episodes total, so I'll assume it's going to happen before it ends.
>>
>>288654148
>let's have a antagonist that eats memories and don't explore that at all
>>
>>288651677
What's far more interesting to me is that the author realized that the formula and Subaru had gotten stale and comfortable. The whole previous anime season was barely 5 resets, and mostly curb stomping by the "good guys", including Subaru, with only a couple of "casualties". In short, the hero team had grown too powerful and hyper competent and made all the bad guys look inept. It took away all the tension. So for the most recent anime series, he pushes the reset button on Subaru only just to make things interesting by having the character to back through the struggle part of his progression. The audience, however, knows everything so it is up to the viewer to decide if this is actually a good idea to bring about some needed insecurities to the team or if it is just a frustrating ordeal for them because this Subaru is now acting like a total imbecile, moreso than he did even when he first came to this world.
>>
>>288654109
>>288654148
>you do know what has good memory loss writing? my western shit stories!!
>>
>>288651677
yes
>>
>>288651677
you all know you would perform just like him if you were put into his situation.
>>
>>288661321
Halfway into next cour means halfway into next cour, as there’s going to be a 1 1/2 month break after next week
>>
>>288661825
Rather than acting like an imbecile, it’s more that he’s paranoid and has no one he can trust, not even himself. So he’s been spiraling these past few episodes.
>>
>>288655931
You mean the dumbass who narrowed the suspect scope down from the entire human populace to just Japan by episode 3?
>>
>>288660672
Name a scenario where something reminiscent of your example happened
