The shōta is in dangerous!
>>288656696>When is the trio getting their full cour spin-off??I'd rather watch a full cour about Kinue.
Your choice?
>>288658012Yes.
They didnʼt take to their school, because her eyes are strange.
>>288658384An invisible carrot.
>>288657868Honestly it has felt like half of this cour was about her. She was the central character in like 3 episodes and is always in the backgound of several other stories, including being the inspiration for two of the cutiepie trio to be at awajima in the first place. Wakana was so lucky to have had her as a senpai
Brutal episode. It started very sweet with the son's interview about her mom then it turned painful with the rejected girl only to end in the tragic story of Ibuki's regrets and the injustices faced by Emi Okabe. I can't imagine living with the regrets Ibuki must have had. At least it seems Emi Okabe found some happiness after Awajima, hopefully we'll see some of that before the finale.
I hope Wakana writes a book about Ibuki and Emi
>>288658857Beautiful.
Stellar direction in today's episode.
>>288660289>Emi Okabe found some happiness after AwajimaWe know nothing about her side of that marriage.
>>288661564I know, that's why I hope we get to see it.
Pretty weak episode. The first half is just another extension of the cast for no reason, the second half is mostly the same scenes as episode 2 except with some additional narration from Katsurako, which is also mostly stuff we already knew from ep 3.I do want to know more about Emi, but this episode just didn't tell us anything new about her.
>>288656696indeed

>What could have beenWe were THIS close to greatness!
>Story about son and his mommy fixation unrelated to previous cast other than being an interview subject>Story about ugly girl being rejected also unrelated to previous cast>Recap story of bullying arcVery weak episode
>>288658130Most probably. Awajima is looking for beautiful girls. It's proto idolshit
>>288664907brutal mogging
>>288665726Wasnt a recapIt was more context for itTake it easy man
>>288664907>sorry, we don't allow sloths into awajima
>>288660460I think that all of these stories we're seeing narrated are the book that Wakanacutie is writing. Would especially make sense for ibuki's stroy as it would be a confession of all her guilt and regret as she's reaching the end of her lifeSaorichan a cute
>Making a fanfiction of your own mom
>>288662199I can understand your feelings but I disagreeThe purpose of the first half was to show a direct comparison to ibuki's storyThe guy who became a scriptwriter was always seeking his mothers approval. And although she didn't show alot of affection or praise him, she's not a vile bitch like the ibuki grandmother. In contrast, grandma ibuki was a fucking evil cunt. Granddaughter ibuki was seeking her approval aswell because she revered her for her stardom, but as she slowly came to understand how evil she was, her feelings turned sour and she took it out on emi okabe, who reminded her of her grandmother bitch. This is also coupled with the fact that the thing which pushed her over the edge and officially ruined their friendship was emi defending an innocent third girl who did nothing wrong except BE BETTER than ibuki. This is also paralleled with the other story about the froggirl. She didn't have what it takes to get into awajima and she was presented an opportunity to use nepotism to get in, but she decided (honorably) to not do that and instead try it on her own merits again, even if it meant she would fail. I don't want to say that it's implied ibuki got in on nepotism, because we don't know, but what we do see is that she wasn't good enough to get the role, which is a direct parallel to froggirl, adding to her inferiority complex and being half the driving force of her treatment of emi. Basically, what I'm saying is that while the stories of the first half are not actually connected to any previous ones in terms of characters (other than saori who was previously seen eating cheesecake and being cute) they were connected thematically. I will say that I think this episode might have been better suited to earlier on, maybe in the middle of the season, because we're approaching the end and I feel like there needs to be some multi-episode arc to tie it all together, but I can understand separting it from the rest of the ibuki story for some time, too
>>288667194>men only want one thing
>>288667020That's Midori
>>288667399Man I cannot remember any of these names and all these girls look the sameDid we not previously see saori??
>>288667399>>288667443>>288667020What the heck there is no way these are two separate girls. Same hair, same eyebrows, same eyesWhy are you trying to decieve me anon??
>>288667443>>288667461To be fair, Midori only showed up briefly as a young girl, we saw more of her older self. She's at the bottom of pic.
>>288667020>>288667443Honestly they look really similar. I only noticed it wasn't Midori because Hanakana's voice is pretty recognizable.
>>288667227Nice to see some analysis, even though I think that's a stretch. The first two stories were not there to serve as a contrast to Ibuki's story, they were just thematically grouped as "stories of children of famous parents". The 2nd story from the previous episode (about Wakana's kouhai/roommate) would also be here if the 20 minute format allowed it. The first guy's story was not about seeking his mother's approval, it's about how she was an inspiration for him to the point that he made up her personality because he didn't actually know the real her. And I don't think Ibuki's story had anything to do with nepotism. Emi herself praised her.
Who's the cutest girl so far?
>>288668851Fair pointsPerhaps I was reaching to an extent, but I do see a connection thereThe mark of good writing is when there can be multiple reasons for things to connect, even if it's very light or subtle>>288669780
>>288668851Also, to be clear, about the nepotism, I didn't imply that ibuki got in because of nepotism and the show has done no such thing, but she is from a line of awajima alumni. Though that is already common in the school, the show pointed out that despite her lineage, she was inferior to another girl for a specific play. THIS, is the connection to the second story, that both she and the froggirl were not good enough to get what they want. However, froggirl, being a good girl, used it to push herself and try to get better while ibuki used that experience to turn around and try and tear somebody else down, which she successfully did consider emi quit. Also, unrelated but speculating now, I think Emi didn't quit because of everyone else in the school ostricizing her, nor from being passed over for parts, but because her friend ibuki specifically betrayed her and destroyed their friendship. She deliberately singled her out and spat on her. It may have been just that she was the ringleader of that clique, but this episode revealed that they were friends before all of that happened. Also, emi defending that other girl probably shows that she's the kind of person who values people and relationships with people to a high extent, so being cast aside by ibuki is likely the main thing that broke her. Idk, just from the way she behaved it seemed like she could handle all of the other crap that was thrown at her, but losing ibuki was too much
I really like these shots that are framed like a stage. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu made particularly good use of them.
I also really like the wistfulness that every narrator has in their voice when recalling their connection to Awajima. Even if it's painful, or bitter, or full of regret, it's still an irreplaceable and precious memory that impacted the rest of their life.
The first two stories leaned so strongly into the recurring themes of family and motherhood that I was slightly surprised the third story didn't, but on the other hand I also feel like it's no surprise that Ibuki's story ended up being all about Emi again. But man, her best friend practically tells her to her face that she's a shit actress and walks away? That's some ice cold shit and it's no wonder she might've felt betrayed after that. I mean, it's not like Emi had to support Ibuki for the role, but she really didn't need to spit in her face (figuratively) like that, she could've been kinder about it. It very much reminds me of Hidarikiki no Eren, with Koichi constantly struggling for recognition from those with talent, but those with talent only care about others with talent.
The cinematography in the third story was great though
Beauty in melancholyNot quite wabi-sabi I think, but there's something special about it nonetheless
Also I think it's interesting that Emi didn't even notice Onoda trailing along after Ibuki in this interaction
>>288669780Katsurako
>>288672634Wow, only three left.
This made me think, how were right to left writing systems developed? Obscuring the already written text feels like a big negative. Were all ancient chinks left handed?

Where is their full cour?
I just watched the episode, it was great (again). Not my favourite individual stories in isolation, but I love the link between all three being about the children of Awajima stars and the different ways they either use or avoid using their status as leverage to get what they want. Also direction was great this episode, especially in the final story with shots like;>>288671866>>288671886>>288671909>>288679006>>288694446This show is superb.
>>288701998/our/ main characters
>>288703779The cutecrew
>>288702998I think every single episode has been good. Some were a little weaker than others, mostly due to being more disconnected, but as a whole each episode maintiains a very high bar. The episode with Ibuki's cunt grandmother was the peak, though. It just had such a poignant and brutal ending. Ruriko deserves the world. Second place is the cutiepie trio's focus episode. They had some of the best chemistry on the show.
