Reactions to this chapter have only confirmed to me that most people don't remember much of what happened already in the manga and are bitching that things we already know are being reaffirmed for context. Like were people really surprised to find that Guts has more agency than most when Skull Knight and Slan observed this ages ago?
Also a weird purity obsession when a main throughline is that Guts' humanity is tainted by his monstrous worse nature that he contends with as intrusive thoughts and self-destructive tendencies. You know, the same evil id that Schierke has to tard wrangle with astral projection every time Guts fights, because Guts has been drawing on it conducting blatantly supernatural feats of violence.
It doesn't matter if Guts has some quantum voodoo loophole from the macabre circumstances of his birth, or if an apostle is his daddy, or being soaked in demon blood has tainted him, because Guts having an inhuman element just accentuates the desperation of his struggle to maintain himself and by extension protect what he cares about.
Guts could walk out of the stupa with features of a beast and he'd still be Guts as long as he hasn't followed the examples of Zodd or Skull Knight, who each discarded their humanity to become something that can fight forever. Guts affirming his humanity would align with a transformation into something encompassing his inner strength but is still ultimately mortal.

Not really.It has been heavily foreshadowed. Guts was mentioned as having "the devils own luck". In early chapters his scabbard is akin to a pointy devil tail. His odd is strange as mentioned by Shirke. The dying females tied to the tree likely belonged to a cult. It is mentioned that places and people related to death are closer to the erstice. Guts is not chosen in the full sense - he simply got lucky / unlucky depending on pov to be born in a way that allows him to have more freedom from causality than most. It has to do with his parents or rather the lack there of - there wasn't anyone in his life that imprinted their views on him. I have often wondered about them and who they were but even more importantly is something a lot of people miss - we know even less about how Griffith was born. Even less about his childhood. We know he dreamed of the castle and ran on the cobbled town streets but we know nothing of who raised him and how... was he a street urchin? Did he have a overbearing mother or father? Was he raised in terrible conditions or were the family well of? Was there one parent missing? It was clear from the start that the early life biographical part is being kept vague deliberately and thus likely left for the ending.

Anyway, Guts definitely had/has a predetermined role to play. He was an important piece in Griffith's rise and fall, and SK was able to notice that he's someone who fits that role for Griffith - presumably because things were somewhat similar back when he was a mortal struggler himself.

This doesn't give Guts any special power, more so than anyone. Casca and Judeau and fucking Corcus had predetermined roles as well. Guts simply has that struggler mentality, which is what SK means when he mentions the circumstances of his birth. He's literally been struggling since his first breath.

The two hawks are not Griffith but Guts and Griffith. It is obvious by how one is full of desire and wants to achieve things ruthlessly but is regarded as a hero and beloved while the other is someone who wants a regular existence but is forced to fight relentlessly for it and is perceived as evil. The Holy see gets a lot wrong. They get the idea of two hawks correct but will not recognize who the good one among them is. In the world of Berserk it is clear that the people are oblivious to major events - the supernatural and aristocratic machinations of the nobility are beyond their understanding. People are woefully unequal in Berserk to the point of not being able to be friends as recognized by the speech Griffith gives to Charlotte. That they don't recognize the fine line between someone good and someone evil is evident like in the Tower of Convictoin arc. It's a comment on how people are too stupid to realize who their saviour is (which happens a lot to Guts - they almost always fear him when he first shows up to save them.) The struggler concept is only ever used by someone who would recognize it for what it is unlike the plebs who don't understand shit in that world - an element of predestination etc. Which is why Zodd also recognizes it when he says: "I have seen this double edged ploy before(likely referring to him and skullknight)." I love Miura but you need to understand that Guts in that world is anything but a stand in for the everyman - he is the one that overcomes the limits that they the everymen have. He starts of slightly underpowered compared to Griffith and by the time he wants to leave he is more powerful than him in combat. Storytime. Berserk's been part of my life for literally 20 years. A friend of mine recommended it to me in 2006 when I was in the 7th grade, it was among the first manga I read fan scanlations of. I was such a sperg that saved the images as I read them, and then renamed the files so that I could read Golden Age and Black Swordsman in chronological order rather than the order of publication. It took a very long time, since this was a matter of renaming thousands of jpgs, Black Swordsman alone is like 600 pages and Golden Age is 4x that.
It took days of doing, but finally I had it all just like I wanted it. Now this was back when I didn't have my own laptop, so I saved it all on the family computer, and I could only use it so much on any given day. I left the stuff in its own file, turned off the computer for the day, knowing I'd come back to it and then enjoy myself the next day. But that next day, when I came back, someone had deleted my Berserk folder and even cleared the trash bin. I was so pissed off. I asked my sister if she'd been using the computer, she said she hadn't. I asked my mother, she said she doesn't even know how to use it. I went to talk to dad, and I found him in the living room, drinking a beer with this guy I didn't know. I asked dad if he'd used the computer, and he said no, but his friend had asked to borrow it for something, and he'd allowed it. And that person who he'd borrowed our family PC to, the one who had deleted my Berserk folder forever?
That person was Kouji Mori.

There is simply no way he could have possibly existed within the Interstice before we were shown and told that he now was there in volume 13.

Do note while we’re at it that the Skull Knight knew about Guts’ birth and told him about it in volume 9, not to say that he was special because of it or that he existed within the Interstice, but to reinforce the point that Guts had escaped death his entire life and thus would be best suited to escape it once more during the Eclipse. That is, again, the whole point of why he calls him “struggler”. If Guts had been in the Interstice and that had made him special, then the Skull Knight would have told him that instead. What episode 384 does is essentially a retcon, and a nonsensical one at that.
