>starts off with some interesting story about necro-soldiers>spends half it's run-time on some Count of Monte Cristo revenge plot>then just ends out of nowhereYou know I was kinda liking it at the start but idk what happened after that, it just veered way off track.PK Chronicles just seems like more of the same, but I haven't really started reading it yet.
>>288691771>disliking based mustershiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit taaaaaaaaaaaaaste
>>288691771One Piece fans complain about Flashbacks meanwhile this Flashback started before Wano started. It's still ongoing and it outlived an entire book of the manga. Also gotta say we all know that Erica's secret skill has to be using Kristal Morten somehow right?
I just finished reading Gaiden, it's really good.Reading the author's notes was also kinda eye-opening crazy to think he finished the original run of GUNNM by himself with no help or assistants >>288691971desu I wasn't expecting the story to go straight into flashback then spend a decade plus there. It seemed more like the story was going to slowly reveal what happened between Yoko/Gally and Erica while the plot was on-going rather than pause and completely change perspective for the rest of the run
>>288692338The author is absolutely dedicated.Imagine finding out you're dying and making one last earnest attempt to finish your work, finding out the disease wasn't as bad and making more lore for a video game, and then finding yourself cured and going "Time to finish my magnum opus."
>>288691771The art went to shit compared to the original so i droped it after a few pages.
>>288694669I prefer the old artstyle but I still like the new lookI think it just took him a bit to get his flow down
>>288691771>Hating on Muster>Hating on Alita's backstory being supercancer>Hating on ugly eyespatch being shithead
>>288691771I feel like he secretely got bored of Alita and wanted to do other stories in the same universe.Like with the Vampire story (dear god, the lips)
>>288694669The art is still great, it's just adapted since he's obviously older now
I dunno, Muster was fun and all but it felt like a waste to spend 8 volumes out 10 on him. Then again I felt the same way about Zechs and Zekka. I prefer when Kishiro delves into his worldbuilding more, like the vampire flashback. At least now we seem to be jumping directly into the midst of Panzer Kunst politics that are going to lead to their eventual unmaking.
>>288695756Muster was basically a filler arc that took over the plot for more than half of Mars Chronicle except it was good so nobody minded at the time. It's like if Itchy and Scratchy followed Poochie to his home planet and it turned out to be better than the regular show. That said, Mars Chronicle as a whole doesn't feel like a complete story. More like one big story (Muster's arc) preceded and followed by a lot of little stories that happen to be adjacent to Erica or Alita.
>>288696279>It's like if Itchy and Scratchy followed Poochie to his home planet and it turned out to be better than the regular show.lol, lmaoYeah, that a nice way to put. MC and PKC doesn't seem to be too different of a story to deserve the separation. Maybe Kishiro and Kodansha wanted to rebrand to show that the focus is going back to Panzer Kunst and maybe Alita now.
>>288691771I'm surprised the author was able to top Nova in LO, Mbadi was such a great villainI also liked how his death was what led to the start of MC, since he was retroactively the only person capable of detecting necros. These "post-victory power vacuum" stories are always my favorite>>288695756honestly I'm noticing he does these "side-stories within the main plot" often. The vampire flashback was a low point for me and so was Muster
>>288694761I really like some of the art.>>288696279The entire flashback was there to give insight into Erica's thinking. That's the biggest takeaway, even more so that Alita's origin.
>>288698144>These "post-victory power vacuum" stories are always my favoriteSame
>>288691771i don't know if its just a me thing but since i'm a worldbuilding fag but I just accepted that this is a full prequel manga and even if i don't really care about young gally there still is a enough weird mars society world building stuff to keep me hooked. This even let me get through the zot after the power scalling got so stupid i stopped caring about the fights
>>288691771This backstory is too mean-spirited imo.I miss Alita / Yoko going around, being a hero while meeting weirdos.
>>288698144really? I liked the munster stuff but maybe that was because we were in full flashback mode then but the vampire stuff really rubbed me the wrong way i didn't feel like they fit in to the world the rest of the manga was building even if they got a "scifi" explanation.I also just enjoy characters getting their motivation through copes, hence i really liked sinbad from magi and his whole "i didn't make a bad decision destiny needed me to fuck up" spiel
>>288698144Mbadi was great but Nova is still the goat
>>288700372yeah he had the better reaction images because of him coping
>>288695756>Then again I felt the same way about Zechs and ZekkaBut they were the best part of LO
If you made it through the vampire flashback in Last Order, I don't see why anything else afterwards would filter you.
>>288694761that part was great
>>288700510sechs dick jokes
>>288701997and of course
>>288693501Dedicated, but really has no idea how to end it.>>288694761>>288701907Is this the real reason we will never get a sequel? Der Maus owns the rights and I think Mickey et al still have a issue with a bit of blood.
>>288702474>Is this the real reason we will never get a sequelto the live action movie?it would take like 7 movies just to get to this partthere's plenty of gore much earlier too
>>288701997kek
>>288702474It's not like there isn't gore before then.
I know the original ending was something he had to rush together because of ...reasons, but given how much the rest of the series lost the plot I think I'm happier with it.
>>288702541>>288705718True, but would Der Maus invest to the whole of Alitas story?
>>288691771theres a new panzer kunst chronicles chapter but not a lot happens.
>>288702474>Dedicated, but really has no idea how to end it.Of course it doesn't end. That's his job. Also, seeing ideas in Mars Chronicle that he first hinted at in the 90s PlayStation game makes me think he still has lots of story to tell.
>>288706882A climax seems to be on the deck since Danko showed up.
>>288706569idrc about "Yoko and Erica showing everyone up in the Magic Academy" adventures desuthe idea that the Kuntslers would be against child killing alone seems kind of absurd to me considering their reputation before that.
>>288705984Probably not but not for gore reasons I think.
>>288707314It's been a while since I read Mars chronicles but didn't Gelda actually get in trouble for attacking the military group to saving Alita and Erica?
>>288706882>the 90s PlayStation gamelmao wut I'm looking this up now idk this was a thinggraphics look pretty good for a PS1 game but damn it's like 90% talking
>>288708701Did it ever officially make it to the west?
>>288709451there's a fan tl patch afaik
>>288700372The album Novas name comes from kicks ass by the way
>>288702541The movie was pg-13 but on page 13 in volume 1 you have a hooker being brutally murdered lol
>>288691771this guy could never write a good plot
>>288710526Objectively wrong.
>>288700510ehlike i said, they are fun but i can get high octan shonen fightan elsewherehigh tech low life is what gunnm got me with
>>288702474I'm betting on Gally matter punching Nova into becoming a tree in Nezher.
>>288710306Oh yeah i was listening to BOC way back before reading this and the fact that there's such deep rooted reference just adds to my amazement
>>288710306>>288712798Blue Oyster Cult, was it? I heard Kishiro referenced them, but which albums?
>>288712958Just Imaginos really. The only album with all the bangers and mysticism packed into one and honestly their peak form imho
>>288712958He’s also a fan of Kansas. That’s the reason he had the exhibition there around the time of the movie and thus the setting.
>>288714157It's also where the Star/Trash City is located.
>>288714284Not in fucking Brazil like James demanded
>>288715782well, not like there's a big difference but still
>>288717680There's a huge difference for the tuned arcs given that the landscapes would be completely different and not at all as emotionally evocative
>>288718097there are enough deserts and wastelands in brazil, and you won't be able to tell the difference between raider thugs!
>>288707314killing children in stupid murder games is stupid, this isn't training, it's just retarded. your whole organization could perfectly find use to weak people somewhere else. I'm really not sure about where Kishiro wants to go with this.
>>288718816No, no there is not. The manga has landmarks unique to America.
I've been drawing GallyOctopus or Kitty?>>288719262I was honestly expecting it to be more like Iga the hidden village, not a public nation. It's like Planet Karate except instead of some idealistic dream it's right there in the story.Panzerkunst users always struck me more like ninjas/assassins than frontline soldiersAlso the big secret of PK being "there's a few cannibals" seems fucking stupid like is that REALLY the worst there is?? We see the freaks on Venus eating infants in LO the shock factor really isn't there>>288710526Nah I think he just gets bored sometimes but the actual chatacters and twists are still great.Mbadi and Nova are top-tier, the twist at the end of og was great, and he somehow topped it in LO with the brain scene.>>288702018I noticed a lot of series written by old-guard mangaka seem to pull off the "serious but also jokes" vibe and it somehow doesn't feel obnoxious when they do it.A few other examples are Itoh Sei and Manabe Joji.
What I want to know is what happened on Venus.
>>288720430octopus lips
>>288721428In what sense?
>>288712958>Blue Oyster Cult, was it? I heard Kishiro referenced themzapan is a big fan apparently
I want Erica to break me
>>288720430>Tako-cat
>>288691771Had no idea this even ended. But thanks for letting me know. I’ll find a chance to read the rest of it and see if it was a good ending or a ‘it’s an ending’ kinda ending.
>>288722808Alita went there before Mars chronicles didn't she?Or maybe I misunderstood something.
>>288725350>endedAnon we are still in the middle of the same flashback.
>>288725350it's barely an ending, the next series picks up the story right after
>>288700204You're not alone. I really liked everything that Mars Chronicle put forward, its vision of a colonized Mars is really quite unique. Everyone's continued existences are on such brutal and precarious ground, yet people find the time to scheme and fight wars as if entire nations weren't just a himmelbruch away from desolation. They've spent enough time living like this that their colonist origins, original nationalities and founding myths have been forgotten and replaced at least once over. The Grünthal political stuff that's going on now is just as interesting as anything before it.
>>288725495No, she’s never been to Venus…yet
>>288691771The worst thing is the slow release and pacing. It should be a weekly series with just how little he does in a chapter. Then there's the lingering fact that there's going to be a future plot after all this is done, so we have another 20 years of alita or the author dies, whichever comes first.
>>288725891So where did she get that Gun?
Fact: the original gunnm run is one of the best paced manga ever made. It just never gets dull or turns into a slog, and the varied and detailed art helps a lot too.
>>288726076Hasn’t been revealed yet
>>288725495>>288725891What do you mean?
Wanna hear something funny? Last chapter of Gunnm set in present time and not in a flashback came out more than 10 years ago in October 2025.
>>288726466We have not seen her mission to Venus yet. It’s where she will get Danko. Danko is utterly important as she’s the one telling the whole story.
