I stumbled across that video and was shocked something like that even existed. For one, how in the fuck can you make an argument for dubs especially in 1991 when they were all objectively bad back then. They didn't hire good actors and all the people they did hire for like the 10 total anime that existed in America back then didn't give a fuck about the scripts or characters or anything else. They were just doing a job and being goofy about it. Haven't watched the video yet but I am curious to see how anyone featured in the video could possibly say dub is better than sub. It's a losing argument even nowadays.

With the exception of Akira (which they didn't dub, it was dubbed when they got the rights)
Streamline dubs were pretty high quality and sound better than most stuff do now.

I assume you mean the one from the 90's which isn't even good compared to the dub from the early 00's.... even then no one would say either are better than the original Japanese audio. Same thing with the streamline dub of Cagliostro where they don't even refer to Lupin by his name in the movie. The Manga dub from 2000 is a billion times better in terms of cast and script and even that also is NOWHERE near as good as the Japanese audio with the best voice cast in all of anime history.

I prefer the Streamline dub of Cagliostro to Manga, naming aside sounds more natural but I haven't seen the new dub with the Pioneer cast which is the best English Lupin cast. I like old dubs before late 00's cuz when they're bad they're funny and make poor or boring anime more fun to watch like Appleseed OVA or when they're good they're legit good like Trigun while nowadays most dubs are just bland or cringey.

well yeah, one is written to be a winner in typical shounen hero fashion and the other is written to be a tragic figure who struggles to get his life together and commit to this newly found passion of his among a billion other problems he has.

I think the debate stems more from which is the better franchise rather than who would realistically win in a fight

yeah but the show sucks

Old anime convention footage is so odd because it makes me wonder how people back then became weebs with such a limited amount of exposure to the medium itself.
