Its why he eases into it by admiring Kaji, who like a boy, was overly flirty to every woman in the show while such transparency repulsed every woman except it eventually worked on his old fling Misato (who Shinji had an avoidant attraction to) and effortlessly attracted the young Asuka (who Shinji had an anxious attachment to). Meanwhile Genji was the one actually getting the most gash. Turns out Anno knows first hand how being completely detached from women emotionally leads to having them wrapped around your finger. Shinji hated this because he knew if he didn't "perform" (pilot the eva) in such a way he wouldn't be able to maintain Asuka's affection, hence why in his frustration he attacked her both times. I've had sex with so many women just trying to feel good about myself, and its not that I have any game its just I look good physically. Many of these connections abandoned me because I was too transparent with my intentions to fill my heart. I've also hit my ex-girlfriend a few times when I discovered she was cheating on me and I felt spurned by her. I've felt the overwhelming desire to kill myself (do it faggot, I know) feeling like I have no other way to get this kind of nurturing attention from women than to perform some fake bullshit role of masculinity by pretending not to be interested while being interested.
