Now that gacha and Narou-kei are all played out, are OCs posted on Pixiv going to be the new trend in anime? Heavily Armed High School Girls has lots of character designs but no storyline, so the screenwriter can make up any kind of plot he wants with these characters. I could get behind a trend like this because I like artists posting OCs in a shared universe and trying to imagine what their world would be like.

I'm a little disappointed that the show looks like it's going to be cel-shaded CGI from the trailer, but the costumes designs are so complex that it might be the only way to anime them:

The only thing we know about the characters in Heavily Armed High School Girls is that some of them are named after Japanese numbers, and others are named after German numbers.

I liked Frame Arms Girl for being creative in the way it diverged from the toyline, like adding Aoi as the MC and making Baselard a loli. What other Pixiv artists would you want to see getting their own anime? For instance, I think Fukai Ryosuke's Arms Note has better character designs than Heavily Armed High School Girls, and I want to see what kind of enemy they're fighting against that requires them to be armed all the time.

Or maybe we can find out how those poor girls from Zenmaibook's "Three Wise Monkeys" came to be used as experimental subjects. They had a toyline too.

Imagine if Itou's artworks got a shared universe that included his blonde girl armed with a P90, the android girls who get mutilated all the time, and the girl who beats up Santa Claus every Christmas.

Well, what will happen is that an indie game developer will create a game with a bunch of OCs, his art won't be the best in terms of technical quality but they will be unique and full of charm. The lore of his game will be richly expounded on, the music will be god-tier and the gameplay, though engaging, will filter many and create a mass of secondaries.
Wait, that already happened 30 years ago.

Are you talking about Fate? Anyway, VN adaptations are even more played out.

Oh sorry, I realized you meant Touhou. We know ZUN doesn't want it to get an official anime.

And here I thought you were bringing up Black Rock Shooter for a sec. Everything old is new again.
