Is there a reason everybody is so nerfed in Fate/stay night?

Because the story is more interesting that way

Eh. FSN always left me unsatisfied. Zero and Strange Fake have an actual battle royal/war which finally scratched the itch left by FSN.

Because the whole point of FSN is that the battle Royale is fake and gay and the conflict between servants is just a pretense for human sacrifice. The routes are told sequentially because they build on each other. The first route plays the war straight but arrives at a premature conclusion with many questions unanswered and problems unsolved. The second route begins pulling the curtain back and centers around a villain willing to bend and break the rules. Then the 3rd route allows the whole charade to collapse but in the process tells a more complete story with more closure.

Future fate works focus on the battle royale because that's what was popular with secondaries watching the DEEN anime but it was never the focus of FSN.

It's a way for Nasu to preserve dignity. Few characters lose legitimately in FSN, even when they are obviously weaker anyway.

FSN was a story about Shirou primarily. The grail war is just a pretext, which is why every sequential route breaks it down. It really starts from the moment Gilgamesh appears, but you know what I mean. It was a story about human ideals and how those reflected in the heroes.

Strange Fake and Zero were more focused on the war itself. Of course, they both still address the human-servant relationships and have themes of their own. (Zero is all about shattering hubris like a greek tragedy, while FSF plays on UBW's adage of a fake overcoming the original)

Notably, these are about the only truly successful Fate works. Because others like Apocrypha famously missed the point and went way too far into the servant battle side of things.

Everything by urobutcher is shallow garbage

They wanted the cool because they did not care for Shirou's charcter. I know I certainly didn't

There is not a single competent Master. Thats why .

Because the Servant Master Donne room actually matters.
I had a friend watch F/SF and he’s somewhat thrown off by how powerful everyone “suddenly” is.
Little does he know what’s to come in the eventual S2, lmao
