>>288780860Haven't read the LN, but the anime has fantastic direction. A big part of the story early on is characters in very different situations communicating by radio and not really understanding what life is like for the person on the other side of the call, sometimes meaning that you see the same conversation twice but its a very different conversation thats being had in the two scenes despite the dialog being the same. It can get melodramatic but in a good way, the situation as described deserves melodrama and the world grows in an interesting direction in the second season.

The anime has Sawano, and a lot of the cuts are good, especially in the latter episodes. 86 are just the groups of non-ethically notFrench/notWeimar former citizens of San Magnolia who ended up in concentration camps and forced to fight AI robots created by the notGermans/notJapanese by piloting a bunch of deprecated mechs. The social setup is kind of setup like Code Geass. Their squadrons are led by a bunch of lazy San Magnolians, aka the white pigs/frogs, who don't take the war seriously because they're so far removed from the actual battlefields (they use networking and radar systems to get a read on the battlefields, and relay information from the city to the 86s). This is done in promise that the war is going to end in the 6th year of fighting, since the Legion were supposed to all be disabled by then, and the 86 would have regained their freedom. There's also limited to no contact with other countries, so it was widely believed that San Magnolia was the last bastion of humanity. The 86 keep fighting, but the most successful squadron is led by Shin the MC, who is ordered by Elena, the FMC. Really cool mecha designs, good fights, good ost, decent characters.

So there's some would-be British, Irish, Italians, Germans, etc., who are all in the 86 camps.

I liked it for the cute skype romance between the MCs, and the drama and energy arising from the characters being in a shitty situation. The overhead plot was retarded and I don't care about mecha.
