I have a theory that everything in the Re:Zero story has been set in motion by Echdina. Like, she created Beatrice specifically for Subaru, so in the end he really was That Person, she created Puck for Emilia, she manipulated Roswaal so that the he would be obsessed with her which sets in motion a lot of the main story. How far-fetched is this? I think it's very plausible since she was the owner of the original Tome of Wisdom. I don't know what her endgame is but she will probably be the true main villain of the final arc.
