>>288804313The beginning of the manga was pretty generic and formulaic and that caused a very negative initial impression. The anime was also met with a bad reception because the awful way it was paced (it takes three episodes to cover two chapters), the bad animation and the main character's voice being considered annoying. The manga gets more fun later on and the anime has weird quality between slideshow tier episodes and moments of great animation, but by that point it was too late to make it as big as MHA or JJK.

Hori really played into the main trio and then Endy/Hawks then just pretended the other characters totally did care about Deku and weren't just in stasis until he talked to them again. BC felt like it did attempt at doing the wider cast justice, with lots of broken off team fights with different pairs. Which I personally think is better, i hate getting attached to a side character for them to vanish for 200 chapters but you don't get that crazy fujo loyatly. Yuno being a fuckwit probably doesn't help either, since he sort of just does his own thing here and there instead of being permanently up Asta's ass.BC kinda ends up closer to Baki in that regard when the fujos who do go deep for their side character will make that side character's gaiden outsell 1/2 of modern Jump.
