Even the manga has cases where there is a reference to an earlier one like it happened just recently, when it's been hundreds of chapters between, so he is probably trying to set up a tight timeline as far as events goes at least.

So weird going back to the really early episodes where they have to explain what a computer is or how the internet works and then you jump to the modern episodes and everyone has smartphones and shit but apparently not even a year has passed.
