In the 2nd half of the manga, Shampoo, Ukyo and Mousse do feel like they mostly show up for bit supporting roles or to be obstacles in stories that don't even focus on them as the main obstacle though. But Ryoga still continues getting spotlight in various stories until near the ending. There are quite a few Ryoga arcs that were late enough the original anime never got to them. Even Ukyo and Shampoo do still have late manga arcs too, although just a couple.
