A bit too late, the series was made to promote saga tourism but Covid killed it and the subsequent yen crash only make it worse as only third worlders visit Japan right now. Really good movie with some common caveats that comes with these types of team-up superhero-esque movies. They really held back on Tae/Sakura and Sakura/Kotaro stuff. Also I really wish we get more Ai in season 3. Dunno if they've been reducing her screentime because of Taneda's health or they don't know what to do with her especially with how much fans have been pushing for JunAi and them gradually pandering to that. Also nice Sonna Banana reference, really made it feel like this movie was supposed to come out years ago when Revue Starlight was still at its peak.

The main issue I feel was that they were pressured to pump out a sequel quickly so the EFS storyline felt very sudden. S1 also had a somewhat clear storytelling structure for each episode which wasn't done as properly in S2 leading to everything feeling more disjointed. In S1 it was very clear that Sakura is the MC and the story revolves a lot more around her, but that wasn't the case in S2. Basically most of S2 felt like they were forced to come up with a sequel and didn't have time to make sure everything gel well together, even if by the end it did tell a coherent enough story and strong themes that do build upon what happened in S1.

I agree that there wasn't any romantic subtext between Ai and Junko in season 1 though, it was just a philosophical difference. But their contrast and friction unironically made them the best ship in the show because they were both allowed to have meaningful interaction, develop and showcase their chemistry.

I would think Maimai is also done with high school in the movie, but since she barely appears I can't say for sure, but neither she or her 2 friends have their school uniforms during the movie.
