>>288827867What? First, the pacing of the series has always been fast. Second, this character is going to reappear. Third, yes, it's shock value, but well used. A cute character is introduced who seems important but is revealed to be another of his experiments. What's interesting is the relationship he builds with his victims and how morality is at the bottom of the abyss. Experimenting on orphans to see how the dangerous but treasure-filled abyss works isn't moral, but it's understandable and offers real scientific results. Having built his relationship over a longer period is simply a personal writing decision; both are fine.
