Is Oda the only writer that introduces characters to the story without having any idea what they're supposed to look like?

Hata Kenjiro did that once I think but in a much lamer way

I mean to be fair, the guy is very creative when it comes to looks. I've done some character designs and when doing them, I keep flip-flopping between ideas constantly even when I'm on a specific character for like a week or two. Can't imagine what kind of a constantly spinning design generator a character would be if I decided to show a shadow silhouette years in advance. I'd probably switch between size, genders, species, race and everything else every other day.

those are silhouettes, not design changes. Oda had this nigga walking around in the foreground in broad daylight looking one way and then just randomly changed his design after five years.

Do you actually think Imu was literally a black blob?

he was portrayed as such. i knew hackda wouldn't keep the design but the fact that he included a character in so many action panels without coming up with a design for him just speaks more to his hackdom.
