A lot of veteran female seiyuu cut their teeth with this movie.

>Yuri
A-Ko and B-ko like this guy. Even the director couldn't understand how there were people that believed B-ko was a lesbian

The HD remaster is GOAT
>>
>release 40 years ago today
Still my all time favorite anime. Watched it on Sci-Fi Channel in the Saturday Anime block in the 90s, then rediscovered it a few years ago. Seen it tons of times by now.
>>
>>288862337
Boring and stupid waste of designs and animation.

Same. That block was probably my first introduction to anime or at least where I learned the term "anime". I was still too young so I don't think I ever did sat down and watched a lot of the shows they aired all the way through. They'd just air anime randomly in no order.
>>
>>288864230
This guy is from the third right ??? I have to admit that I drop it midway (I thought it was boring as fuck compare to the first and second one )
>>
>>288866651
He's in 3 and 4
>>
>>288864230
Only saw first one. But B-Ko is an obvious lesbian in that one.

Superman and Wonder Woman’s CANON daughter is so cool and strong!

Licensing issues apparently it is unclear who owns the rights.

Gonna watch this again now, thanks for the reminder OP

It was literally a phase

>>288866651
I think Cinderella Rhapsody works as a pseudo-shoujo but I admit the fans didn't want to see a female coming-of-age

Maybe that's when they discovered the master copy thought lost to time. Otherwise I don't think they could have released a proper blu-ray.
>>
>>288867121
It's obvious from the flashback that C-ko was only a prize to be won and I don't think she would know what to do with her if she ever did get her. A childhood fantasy from long before her hormones kicked in.

>write a friendship and a designated love interest
>the friendship has more chemistry and more resembles an actual romantic dynamic (or having an intense, misidentified crush in the case of rivals) while the love interest feels sterile and arbitrary
>fans ignore the love interest to ship the friends/rivals because that's where all the effort and development and little details are
>>
>>288864091
I've had it on VHS and then the later DVD box set, now I've just got the BDs from Discotek. Worth every re-buy, and the soundtrack is fantastic.
>>
>>288866874
I watched 4 but barely remember it, it's was a mess(not in a good way) and the ending just happens out of nowhere
>>
>>288869009
Cinderella Rhapsody and Final were written by a woman so it was satirizing shoujo

or in other words
>movie got popular
>different director got hired to make sequels
>new director doesn't like yuri and tries to bury it
>>

Is the 4K Blu-ray any good?
>>
>>288864110
I feel like a lot of anime girls are missing that sexy naval line that used to be present in a lot of shows/OVAs from this era
>>
>>288869179
At the time nips couldn't grasp the concept of lesbianism. They're still struggling because it's a society obsessed with the cock. I seriously doubt B-ko was conceived as a lesbian, even in the original movie
>>
>>288869225
kek, were they like "How could a woman live without cock"
>>
>>288869225
>at the time nips [headcanon]
just accept that a different writer wrote the characters differently, it happens all the time in any media all around the world

Nips gonna nip. Even after all these years, yuri is still treated as yaoi's ugly stepsister

Are you seriously implying Japanese boomers aren't lesbophobic? There's a reason why every yuri manga made in the 70s and 80s end with the lesbian dying or loving the cock. The less fucked up ending was Iczer-1 and at the end Nagisa forgets everything and make babies like a good Japanese girl. Even Oshii, a literal communist, still see lesbianism as a phase
>>
>>288862337
I laughed out loud at the part where B-Ko builds a Rube Goldberg mecha and part of it is one of those bamboo rocking fountains.
>>
>>
>>288862337
I laughed my ass off the first time I watched it
I did not when I rewatched it several years later
I dare not watch it a third time
>>
>>288862337
it's fascinating how influential it was on American perceptions of anime. most people didn't know it was satirising anime tropes of the era, so they took it at face value and thought anime actually was all "wacky school girls fighting giant robots in their undies".
>>
>>288869462
Yurifags really are delusional.
>>
>>288870885
>wacky school girls fighting giant robots in their undies
As it should be.
