I just wrapped up watching Big O and that ending really sapped out a lot of my enjoyment with the series as a whole. I was super into the setting of one day everyone lost their memories in the semi distant past and now they are simply living in the carcass of their own advanced civilization thing they had going on, but they threw all the loose ends about the world building into the trash with the meta ending. My question is, has there ever been a good or even decent meta/4th wall breaking ending that didn't make a show or manga worse off for it? I can't think of any meta inclusions that weren't somewhat corny or just plain bad.
