Why are we getting an anime of these dogshit cultivationslop instead of the classic wuxias?
Considering how much of an influnce they have an anime and manga they should totally be adapted, it's the only way anime can be a thing again. But it also attracts the undesirables, while the novels filters them. Conflicting!

Reading Wuxia actually makes me hate anime and manga seeing as it is a watered down TikTok version. The characters and writing all have shallow storytelling with the depth of a puddle. And these best girl comments on Xianxa webnovels where you wouldn't find a single decent romance in the whole genre is just the cherry on top.
Truly it caters to the lowest common denominator of fiction.
I'm just here out of habit.

There are very few wuxia/xianxia novels actually worth reading, of the top of my head, Lord of the Mysteries, A Regressor's Tale of Cultivation and Sky Tide.

It was incredible twist, especially in the book where it was mentioned just once at the very beginning (just after Klein joined the Nighthawks) and then suddenly reappearing like 200 chapters later.
Anime cut out some side jobs plotlines, but it was interesting to read how every "accident" and "coincidence" were slowly reveal to be connected. Then the pen scene confirms it all.
Also the Pen-chan will be involved in s2 too.

Lord of the Mysteries has smart characters written stupidly.

Ciel Dubois from Circle of Inevitability is a smartly written smart character. When Ciel kills a hotel room full of three people he books the room next door so he can examine it, finding which walls he can stab and shoot through, what flammable materials there are, whether there is enough space to break-dance, etc. This is a smart thing to do because Ciel is a smart person who is written by another smart person who understands how smart people think.

If Detective Sherlock Moriarty from Lord of the Mysteries were to kill a hotel room full of three people. He'd enter using a secret door in the hotel he found via divination. He'd throw a mystic item infected by True Creator ravings near one guy causing him to lose control. The second person would then immediately die, as planned, as it's a "reasonable development" for the woman to be torn to shreds by the first guy who turned into a mad monster. As for the third man, why Sherlock doesn't kill him at all. It's a reAson.b!e devel0pmenT fOr tHe 3rD mAn to di3 fRom A heArt aTta--- After turning around counter-clockwise, the third man removes his disguise to reveal he actually WAS Sherlock the entire time. But Sherlock just entered through the secret door and killed two people, how can there be two of him? The first Sherlock removes his disguise to reveal that he is actually Lanevus attempting to frame the detective. Sherlock however anticipated this, the two dead people stand up, they're Sherlock's friends, Maric and Sharron, their deaths were just an act. "But Sherlock!" Lanevus cries, "The two of them looked like they clearly lost control or died, the woman even lost her head, how do you explain that?" Because I am better at using the thing behind my glabella, Sherlock inwardly Lampoons, the end.

This is retarded because Sherlock is a smart person written by a stupid person to whom smart people are indistinguishable from wizards.
>>
Are there any other dongs like this show? Most of the ones I see are kung fu or sci fi.
>>
>>288879926
Yeah. Should have never allowed the stupid decision to force "Clown" fight to 3rd ep.
Leonard being faster and stronger than some demigods or Klein almost blowing up the city from almost loosing control were alos dumb decisions just to try to cash out the solo levelling "aura moments".
I think that the worst victim of speedrunning the plot was Tarot Club meetings. Those were always the best part of plot, all the way to the end. And with them gone, we lost some nice Roselle's diary scenes.

>>
>>288880709
>they went a bit overboard
This is misleading as it implies any competency. Season 1 felt like a lot of clueless people who don't know what they are doing were involved in it. It's a big and expensive project for a beloved, domestic IP, it's jarring that nobody politely pointed out how shit it was turning out to be during production.

>Exec hears about the "3 episode rule"

Absolutely wild. How does this even happen. The 3 episode rule means a show's first 3 episodes need to be good, not that they need to maximize meaningless key jangling. The opposite lesson. Insanity.
>>
>>288880847

>>
>>288883222
The studio realized that they didn't fucking explain what the City of Silver is, or who Derrick ("The Sun").

Although they could have just moved this episode to season 2 when Derrick matters more.
>>
>>288875339
>I read the book and didn't really understand this first special.

in the forsaken land, there's a number of hostile conditions besides no sun. people born there suffer a curse, where if they are not killed by a blood relative they turn into a monster. that is why derrick was forced to kill his parents why were fatally wounded on patrol.

the white hair badie shepard lovia is a rose bishop. rose bishops specialize in magic that's more along consuming/transforming/manipulating flesh and blood. rose bishop sequence is a part of the hanged man pathway, which is the true creator's pathway. i'm sure you can see why derrick who is part of the tarot card club will find himself at odds with lovia the rose bishop.

Author will explain the same extremely mundane thing over and over... And then do it again after another 3 chapters.
>water is wet?

Fucking dollar store Socrates.

The world doesn't really make much sense either. Maybe bending time and fate with his super rare exclusive dues ex cicada is pretty cool, but your regular gu masters bellow tier 4 are gimmicky chumps that require a wall-mart tier logistics to support themselves and their party tricks. Medieval knights pale in awe at how utterly stupid and inefficient that whole fictional system and society is.

MC also is something else too. A modern man who has seen the wonders of highly cooperative societies now starts larping about being a strong independent woman™ when gu cultivation is the most codependent power system that amateur writing community has ever seen.

Why did this shit ever gain traction? Why is it so popular? I'm not a big fan of LotM, but at least I can see why it took off, but Reverend Insanity is such a giant pile of crap that I'm baffled.

Not really since usually low level gus need to be fed like once a year. The wine gu was special because it needed as much wine as possible to increase the aperture.
>A modern man who has seen the wonders of highly cooperative societies now starts larping about being a strong independent woman™ when gu cultivation is the most codependent power system that amateur writing community has ever seen.
A level 6 gu master is above all rank 5 gu masters, only a rank 6 can fight a rank 6. A venerable is above all rank 8 gu masters, only another venerable can fight a venerable. In a world where a single person can overcome the entire society, what purpose is there but power? While it's true that the power system is codependent on others, Fang Yuan believes that as long as he is not the one on top he will always be controlled by others more powerful than him, and you can see this by looking at the Heaven's Court (the "good guys"), where you are forced to give up your aperture and future to join.
>Why did this shit ever gain traction? Why is it so popular?
Fun MC, interesting power system, few novels where the MC is a monster.

yeah its one of few (very few) good chink anime

Seriously, the live-action dramas are full of those adaptations. It's obvious why women like it, overpowered chad fails for one woman though multiple lifetimes. There are also many xianxia BL(danmei).

i got absolutely filtered by this on account of being a complete retard, i may give it another shot with the dub so i can concentrate on what's going on, chinese sounds wierd to me anyway its like someone whispering in my ear constantly.

As that other Anon stated, but to add - by that point you should know that beyonder characteristics (main potion ingredients) are condensing after person dies. What Dunn did was consuming multiple "potions" that he already done, as he's at higher sequence. But the thing is each new ingested characteristic requires "digestion" - that is to act out the principles of the sequence. Acting method is a very guarded secret, but Klein found that out from Roselle's diary (IIRC) and mentioned it to the Nighthawk team. This is why they had to swear on the holy sword that they won't reveal it to others. With Dunn acting as a Nightmare (literally went into Klein's dream to eat the soup he made, lmao) he slowly regained mental stability. Unfortunately it was much too late as the Pen already wrote the finale. I think it was also mentioned by "it" as the guy behind it revises the script

>few novels where the MC is a monster
Is he even that? He's not even strictly immoral. At best he's amoral larper who has to excuse almost every shady thing he has done in his inner monologue as if he's overburdened with guilt. Author can't go "the world is cold and the strong prey upon the weak" and then pretend that MC is extra super cold and mega ruthless when every other character is. In that setting he's a normalfag.

Anyway, I'm not hating on you or anyone enjoying it if you find it fun, but I absolutely am against putting it on any pedestal and pretending it's some sort of standard of good quality or an achievement of amateur writing.

and they do absolutely nothing together. Having finished the WN the negative that stands out the most is how the novel had the most heart in volume fucking 1 or 2 or whenever it was when Klein died. even subsequent moments are tied to that.

There are many girls in the series, most of them get some focus but only Audrey is treated as some kind of deuteragonist with the amount of focus she gets. They are usually nicely written and the important ones reappear often in the series, like next season's Miss Bodyguard.
There is no romance for MC in this series if this is what you are searching for.
>>288888250
This is kinda explained in ~season 6, but the full truth about it is revealed in the sequel series.
>>288888501
You should see him using incomplete power at the end of s2 and in the special episode on 28th.

It is good, even if quite rushed. Music is great, animation is good (some fights suffer from excessive camera movement) plot is great.
Unironically one of the few anime where english dub is fitting the Victorian steampunk not-england background.
But if you are going to watch it in dub, be aware that for some retarded reason they spoil one of the twists regarding power system in the very intro of each episode.

>Not really since usually low level gus need to be fed like once a year.
Opposite, Anon. Low level gu need to be fed often but with cheap and quite easily acquirable materials. high tier/immortal gu require very specific food but you need to feed it once a year or more. You can use food path to ease the burden of feeding them tho'
But no matter the rank, the more you use the gu the more often you need to feed it.
>>
>>288892149
he shouldnt have died.

>Opposite, Anon. Low level gu need to be fed often but with cheap and quite easily acquirable materials.
I think you're right, but remember that if a rank 3 or 4 gu master has 3-4 gu's he's immensely rich already, most of them have a barely anything.

How's the sequel? I started reading a bit but to be honest I got burnt out on finishing the first one. I didn't connect to the new protagonist and just wanted to know what's next for Klein, but didn't have the stomach for a thousand more chapters
>>
>>288892732
True, he was too precious for this world. If you read the books, you will find out the recurring joke with him where people (mainly MC) talk with him, then go outside his office and start counting. By the count of five you can hear him calling them back as he "just remembered something".
At least his memory lives literally until the very end of the series. Klein also uses Dunn the perfect guardian character that he tries to mimic till the very end of the story.
>>
>>288892876
It's... ok...
Lots of fights, Lumian is not as good a MC as Klein.
Less mystery to the world.
China wank in the later parts.
I only read it to know what happens to Klein after his sleep.
>>
>>288892876
Meh.
New MC is awful and halfway into the series literally stops being a character and turns into NPC with a pre-arranged route before him.
The team that MC gathers is full of non-character to the point that there's a spectator guy casting psychological invisibility so often that even his own teammates and MC forget about him. In a way that can be said almost about every new character in the sequel.
Too much focus of demonesses, Cuttlefish literally turns Franca into MC-lite and it almost seems like he regrets not making her the MC from the start.
There were some good fragments, but they usually involved characters from lotm. The twists are still great, Roselle is still the GOAT and some mini-arcs are great (like the Morora). Unfortunately the new group of enemies are retarded as fuck and get easily defeated, same with the evil gods cultists.
There is also sudden super-duper importance of China in 2nd half of the series that came from nowhere, especially apparent at the very end when it is suddenly the only way to save the world.
But my biggest gripe is how he made the Fool's dream so fucking boring arc. Jesus, it was painful to read.

Got it. It's a bit disappointing but it's good to know I didn't miss out on much
>only read it to know what happens to
Spoiler me. what happens? Does he ever come clean about conning the tarot club?
>>
>>288892876
Lumian is a Hunter that literally doesn't use hunter abilities and all his weaknesses are solved by the Inevitability boons.
The fr*nch is atrocious, CF even tried to make Lumian into Gehrman 2.0 at some point but it was so fucking cringe I almost dropped it. Even without it, he was an annoying cunt without the fun of good provoker like Anderson or the ease of bullying like Danitz. Not to mention that he was nowhere close to Medici in fun and smart factors.
I also had to force myself to finish some of the arcs, but at least the finale was fine. Not too great, but seeing how we got there? It could have been much, MUCH worse.
>>
>>288874953
When will the English dub for the specials come out? I really liked it in season 1.
>>
>>288893108
>Does he ever come clean about conning the tarot club?
Kinda but they've figured it out by their own and some later members know directly.
>>
>>288893108
Lumian puts the pieces together while in the Fool's dream and forwards it to the Tarot club members during one of the times he was going back out.
They react like "Oh. What he was like now makes a lot of sense!" in a single paragraph or so, reaffirming that they are still loyal to him and then it's no longer relevant.
>>
>>288893108
They find out that he's the Fool, but he's also THE FOOL after apotheosis so it doesn't matter, they are all loyal to him. After all he did help them all reach demigodhood and eventually angelhood
The whole dream has interesting concept of multiple forces trying to help win either Klein or Celestial Worthy to be the dominant persona. Enemies try to corrupt Klein with assassin potion, all while the Hospital is being a den of Outer Deities (mainly MGod/MToD) that kill and replace important characters in the dream with their own, corrupted versions. Meanwhile you have literally Evernight being a shopkeeper that sells items that can help our heroes (like a fucking Arrodes, lmao) or Tarot Club members that tried to help Klein but got permanently kicked out of the dream after being too straightforward.. There is also a mysterious helper for Klein that turns out to be Adam split into multiple personas. There is also a very cute character based on Rozanne that unconsciously uses her "evil" powers to protect others until it hurts her, fully channeling that inner Dunn. Unfortunately there is the whole plot how only Lumian and Franca are so special that only they can solve the dream, especially Franca who is also chinese.
Instead of solving the dream they spend most of the time working literal day jobs, salivating about how good the chink food is and how modern china is heaven on earth with all the technological wonders like cars or fridges, lol. They kinda get addicted to smartphones too, kek
>>
>>288893393
Oh, I almost forgot - they didn't wake Klein completely. They literally created GehrmanGPT that takes care of real world stuff while TrueKlein focuses on the fusion with CW
>>
>>288893286
>>288893322
>>288893393
That's incredibly lame. The fact that they all reaffirm their loyalty to him by the end is naturally to be expected but I imagined that
>the great and powerful Fool returns from his slumber... by the way I used to be mostly just a guy and I hung out with you guys in disguise a few times it was exciting wasn't it?
to make an impact on them and be very important when revealed
>>288893466
Wait so he's not actually back yet?
>>
>>288893681
He comes back just before the Apocalypse, surprising and buttfucking every enemy force as he is now the complete LotM. CW agreed to surrender as they both knew that without lotm the Outer Deities will make sure to seal his ass forever. Even then, Klein had to sacrifice quite a bit of his humanity and after hundred of thousands years CW will erode him completely. Sanity is temporary, madness is eternal after all. Klein carried Earth-side (and finale) so hard it wasn't even funny. Why the fuck I had to suffer 7 vols of CoI for that one scene?
