Where did he even get that from? He hadn't had a turn with the ATM yet so he couldn't have gotten it from there. Is that just his real money?
Also I CBA to rewatch the previous episode. Did they say the smuggled money has to be only in the suitcase or can you hide it on your person too?

'technically' is too literal here since it gives the wrong idea, it's more of a 'you know' vibe
>>
>>288878907
i sort of implies that the maleness is existent but not satisfactory up to the meaning of the word.
the "you know" part comes more from the だから than the 一応

>>
>>
>>288878952
omoi!
>>
>>288878949
Ye it's precisely to contrast, like 'I may look like this but im still a man' is a decent way to unpack. I used 'you know' since its more of a statement/informing than the 'technically' which can be taken the wrong way with gender autism
>>
>>288879001
>I used 'you know' since its more of a statement/informing than the 'technically' which can be taken the wrong way with gender autism
i think you're wrong because you know makes it sound like a hardening but it's really a softening in tone. you could always use something like "I'm still male, you know" if you hate the word technically there but i think you're just being a triggered snowflake. the meaning is basically the same you're just poisoned by western garbage which doesnt belong on the anime board in the first place.

in this game isnt a foolproof strategy to always send 100 million and doubt 100 million? The average amount that goes through across all rounds has to be above 50 million since they have 2.7 billion over 50 rounds. Therefore, you're going to sieze all 2.7 bllion and pay fees of at maximum 1.15 billion, making it inherently profitable by 1.55 billion plus whatever you smuggle through. If both sides use this strategy then they will both sieze all of each other's money and cancel indemnities and both sides will be equal with all the money they had at the beginning.

>>

nah it's probably a better translation considering the character.
>>
>>288879301
>If you're injecting yourself with estrogen, then why do you get so violent?
kek you could pose this question to many of them
>>
>>288879193
it's only foolproof if both teams agree
doubting give risk of losing if the other party decide to take an empty case
although i don't see the reason to give dumb number like 50.001 instead of just doubting 100M
>>
>>288879285

>>
>>288879301
wait so why does he say hes a man anyway wtf
>>
>>288877991
It sure looked like it.
>>
>>288879338
No, it's still foolproof if the other team takes an empty case. every empty case they bring that you call doubt on just increases the average amount of money in their later cases. you have to think across all 50 rounds in terms of the total amount of money
the whole lying part of the game is completely pointless because ultimately 2.7 billion goes from one side to the other and doubting is inherently profitable since the repayment is only half of the amount. Even if they never brought any money over you'd have to pay 50 million * 50 which is 2.5 billion and you would receive all 2.7 billion of their money for 200 million profit.
>>
Very entertaining episode
>>
>>
>>288879508
that's why technically a male is a better translation, but yeah it is a weird line that's definitely out of character

Did you miss the part where you start with 100M already in your possession?

>>288879718
she's obviously not a joke character the series is just thematically drawing on trans people as one of the categories of "liars" that are participating in the game

Interesting that they'll include the next game. I wonder if they'll continue with an s2.
>>
>>
>>288880194
that's not how the game works
you get the money personally that you smuggle, sieze, and the money left in the other team's account eqially at the end of the game pluss 100 million
the only problem is dividing money between your own teammates after the game which is thematic of the rest of liar game so far anyways but it's 100% doable and I'm right

one big problem with the blond guy being the insider theory is that 50.02 round game's amount was determined after yokoya entered the one way window room
>>
What if we
>As an inspector, always doubt 100M
>As a smuggler, if the opposing team has X money left of their debts, and we have N rounds of inspection left, smuggle (X - N*50M) money, or 100M, whichever is smaller
Analysing this:
>At the start of the game, X=2700M and N=50.
>When we are the inspector, X decreases by 50M at most, and N decreases by 1. Therefore (X - N*50M) does not decrease during inspector rounds.
>When we are the smuggler. X decreases by an amount tailored such that (X - N*50M) remains non-negative.
>At the end of the game, N=0, therefore X is non-negative. AKA, the enemy team wins no money.
After this, we need only trust in the opposing team's kind human nature. They have the ability to play around our strategy such that both sides come out exactly clearing their debt. And they will, because no one is so evil that they wouldn't.

Yeah, because every time the team picked a weird number, they discussed it first. So I thought the plan was for Akiyama to say he'd pick 99.9 million Yen, then pick 0. So when the inspector guessed, that'd put them in the hole
>>
I feel like last episode missed an explanation or something, or maybe I just misinterpreted it. Everyone is acting like there's a personal risk to smuggling/doubting, but doesn't it go to/from the whole team's pool?

It's quite faithful. A few minor scenes are cut for time constraint reasons though, on the other hand the pacing feels like a slog. However the tranny, as this thread shows, is the same as he was in the manga
Unfortunately they kept his bald head for the second and third game. Giving him his wig back earlier would be a change I don't think anyone would mind

What are you talking about? They didn't even smuggle any money before Yokoya appeared.
Could be a red hearing, but the blonde guy did spent 10 minutes with him and after that he started his clairvoyance. Plus now the blonde has some idea.
To begin with, Yokoya can choose to share or not share any information that he has. It is not like he has to always have information, anyway. Sometimes he can just make a good guess even if he didn't have information. Though, we don't know if Akiyama announced his intend or not.

Uh, yeah they did.
>>
>>288889156
No they didn't. If it is not clear, I mean our guys, the Day country. Fukunaga was the first person to bring any money.
Though I was wrong about something else. Akiyama said nothing, but the team pushed him to take an empty case and he seemingly went with it.
I am still questioning the part where they need to use the suitcases at all. I didn't hear a rule where it says that they need to put money only in the suitcases. It is contraband, after all.

Thinking about it, this is probably the biggest fumble Akiyama did the whole series. I'm pretty sure this is what caused Yoyoka to realize dealing with customs was a waste of time and you could just withdraw money at any time

>>288890562
Close but wrong (big spoiler for this game) dealing outside of the customs is Akiyama's plan and it succeeds. Yokoya's success was being the one bringing the money through the customs for the last day

Uh Yoyoka executes ATM smuggling first it's kind of a big part of why they were in such a bad situation. By the Akiyama realized there was no withdrawal limit, Yoyoka had already withdrawn out all their remaining money

I guess it could work if you immediately retract the hand of cooperation if they fail to reciprocate one round, reducing loss
The other team may just be both confident and selfish, so they may decline to cooperate so they can get even more money. In these cases you would need more than a good strategy to obtain the solution you desire.
>>
>>288882880
The pacing is rather slow. It is pretty faithful.
For the contraband game they changed it from North/South to Night/Day. I thought the analogy was very meaningful so I find the change to be a shame.

I don't think they are supposed to be that dumb. I think the author would just struggle to convey the 20 disparate strategies that they would come up with without making it feel like a meaningless listicle to the audience. Thus instead they crank down the tempo of strategising, and railroad the cast down only a subset of their strategies, to form a more coherent narrative.

It is absolutely self-selecting, just not in the "only 200 IQ psychos enter" way. Normal people who can keep their head down and cooperate probably get filtered out early or never get picked. What you're left with is debt-ridden retards, ego gamblers, and people who think "betray everyone immediately" is a strategy. Nao only looks like a saint because everyone else has terminal game theory poisoning.
>>
>>288902968
Yeah regardless of if they win or lose, anyone who falls for game 1 is automatically a retard. It's a massive filter. Anyone with a working brain would just ignore it due to how shady it is. The games are also designed so that only retards would continue the longer it goes as the least retarded ones would just drop out once they've made money.

There's a reason why all the smart people (Akiyama, Fukunaga, etc.) got in through other means starting round 2 and have their own agendas.

id bet the anime adaptation has disproportionately many trans fans because the like Fukunaga as a character. The idea that all trans people are ideologically captured delusional maniacs doesn't really track in reality. At the end of the day you can't hide from how things are all the time forever.

I really really believe in the individual and that everyone deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt when possible. Also everyone has dignity and deserves to be met with it. But you'd sadly have be pretty blind to think there aren't very obvious trends about some groups of people and their ideological decay. It's without joy that one should accept the sadder reality that profiling works.

Usogui has the drawback of really weak early arcs, people in earlier Liar Game threads were mentioning how we're lucky to get (hopefully) the entirety of Contraband this season. For Usogui, this would be Tower of Karma, the first great arc, and we'd need at least two double-cour fast-paced seasons to get there, there'd be endless bitching if we ended in Labyrinth

Like I said it I obviously don't think trends apply to every single individual and I don't want to judge by trends. Everyone should be met with dignity. It's just that after a while you really start to notice the multiples way to detect an asshole, and when there are a few at the same time yeah you have a (sadly) high chance to be right. We shouldn't live by patterns or reduce individuals to them but pattern recognition is there and way too efficient for comfort. I'm not speaking from a place of gloating either because my own community is also often associated with bad trends and I can't deny some of them are valid depending on context at least.

Anyway, to fresh watchers, who are your favorite NPCs in this game? Why are our opponents NPCs all gigachads and thugs?
>>
Nearly every game here is basically "you need to cooperate with others to rig it so that you don't lose to randomness basically"
>>
>>288907520
Well yeah that's kind of the "engine" if you think about it, these are large scale games and the first big challenge is coordinating groups of people to work towards their wincon. Then the second challenge is "okay but what if they don't cooperate or someone from some other group meddles in". Then there's often a third challenge that goes "what if you could exploit some rule to change your wincon a little". Really interesting imo

I think it's the fact the manga was at a really high point when it was airing probably helped, they wanted it to be great to get you up to speed to follow the manga along
Also weirdly enough, with the same pace, you could get the rest of Washizu Mahjong neatly done in two seasons. Ten would be roughly 42 episodes with Akagi's pace and 29 with Kaiji's
>>
>>288907866
Let's be real, adapting FKMT manga into anime is pretty tricky depending on the manga. I think Ten would work pretty well with 3 cours, would love to see it
>>
>>288907888
36 seems like a good compromise yeah. I was already bawling my eyes out during the final arc, now imagine with music and voice acting
>>
>>288907342
just like gambling prejudice has two factors in the equation, the odds and the prize/punishment. it is fine to just cross the street to avoid shady characters because you win your life/wallet and they lose a little temporary emotions. what you can't do is pre-emptively murder people or imprison them etc because the cost of being wrong is too great.
>>
>>288907921
The pachinko or MAD "adaptations" of the final arc also make me tear up real hard. It's such a fantastic arc.

It makes lots of sense the way you put it. Although I think there's an additional dimension to this beyond just odds and cost/reward, I think it's also about larger plans and ideals: just how much do you want numbers to rule your life? Like I said in my previous post, you can't purely deny the patterns as you see them happen, but you can tone down their use because you don't like that tool on principle
>>
>>288908040
yeah its an oversimplification for sure. small things that you may think would be in your right to discriminate with like who you hire can become a bigger issue societally. the salient factor is that the prejudice itself isn't all, it matters what you do with it. also thinking people are good is a prejudice as well, making guesses is inevitable.

Labyrinth (80-146) is when it goes from alright to good, Tower of Karma (205-264) is when it goes from good to great.
With Kaiji's pace this would mean 14 to cover Introduction, Abandoned Building, and Abandoned Mine, so it'd be 14 to get good and 47 to get great. I say people would bitch about ending on Labyrinth, but it's more of a "we were so close to Tower of Karma" than anything, it'd be a decent season finale IF they confirm S2 by the time Labyrinth starts.
