>>288887585I think you can group Natsu and Lucy together, Natsu's more what you'd expect the MC to look and act like while Lucy is the audience surrogate. The interesting thing with Natsu is none of the early arcs are really 'his' despite being the face of the franchise. The first real arc is the Eisenwald arc and that's more about setting up how jobs work, dark guilds and whatnot, and the formation of the main team ie Natsu, Lucy, Gray & Erza. Then you have the Galuna Island arc which is all about Gray's backstory, his regrets with Ur, relationship with Lyon, Deliora etc. Phantom Lord delves into Lucy's past, her family troubles and everything surrounding that, and then Tower of Heaven is Erza's turn and her past trauma. Even further ahead with the Oracion Seis arc Wendy to an extent gets an arc. Natsu's backstory stays vague with just little tidbits like the barrier he couldn't exit in the Battle of Fairy Tail, his stuff with Igneel and Zeref doesn't really get explored until the end of Tartaros and Alvarez nearly some 50 volumes in.
