Like, in the manga, the MC meets this random guy at the bar, and they totally hit it off and have this mental swordfight in their heads, acknowledging each other as masters. Then they find themselves as enemies, and sensei has an emotionally duel with a guy who's almost his equal and was starting to consider a friend. None of that is in the anime, and I'm pretty sure it's not in the LN, either. I've only read the first half of volume 1 of the LN, but it matches the anime almost 1-to-1.
