Why do you guys like this series as much as you do? Not saying it's bad but holy hell people gas up this series so much. I've only seen the 2011 anime and only read up to Yorknew in the manga and I'm not caught up. Madhouse did a great job with anime but half of the arcs in the story I just don't care about. The series doesn't even really begin imo until heavens arena. I like Yorknew, Chimera Ant (even thought the pacing wasn't that good) and the election arc but it's hard for me to care about anything else. Even if you really like a set of characters, they could just fuck off and you won't see them for hundreds of chapters. I just finished reading the DBZ manga and I'm considering rewatching/rereading HxH to give it another try.
i dont, its garbage shonenshit
>>288888239I don't like peaches or plums or apricots or any other stone fruit, but I don't sit around wondering why other people like them so much, or why they are so many people's favorite fruit. I enjoy what I enjoy and I don't even care whether or not it's popular or whether something I don't like is more popular. I don't even know how to care about this.>"Why do some people like X, which I do not like as much?"Who the fuck cares, bro?
>>288888239>DBZWhew what a fucking retard
>>288888239filtered
When you ask this kind of question, all it makes me think is that in reality, you like HxH a LOT, but you don't understand why, you can't rationalize what you like about it or why it interests you so much, and so you want other people to explain why THEY like it so you can try to understand if you like it for the same reason. If you didn't like it at all, you wouldn't be asking questions about it, if you have this burning need to hear other people explain why they like it, you must be trying to understand your own repressed or unexamined feelings.
>>288888426I just want to see what other people see in it so bad
>>288888451There's parts of it I like for sure but I'm not one of these people who's excited for every new chapter that comes out. I basically an uninterested in over half of the actual story.
I got filtered by them being in kindergarten the whole time, I'm sorry I just don't wanna watch toddlers play with a yoyo
>>288888432The difference is I'm not going to pretend DBZ is a narrative masterpiece
>>288888426Yet here you are wondering why people like asking certain questions while you don't. Quite ironic
>>288888451That's a very silly logic. When somebody praises something so much my expectation are that the work is going to be nearly perfect in content and presentation and I will like it too. When that doesn't end up being the case I ask these kinda questions as a conspicuous call out of shit taste
I genuinely do not get why people like Hunter HunterIt initially presents itself as this kind of different shounen that is toootally unlike other shonen such as Naruto or Bleach, but defaults into being the same thing, with it being ripen with the same problems that plague other shounen like crappy worldbuildingI understand being into shonen because everyone was once obsessed with mimicking jutsus or special abilities but to actually be invested so much into it when it doesn't offer that much in immersiveness is very weird to meI don't know much about the hxh world even though HxH is supposed to be Togashi's magnum opus so I can't care about anything that happens in the story, Togashi is even clear in not being slightly interested in that because he wants the series to end in an unexplored setting like the Dark Continent
>>288888814I'm specifically addressing a question that was directly asked to me. I obviously don't expect you to appreciate how unironic that makes my answer.
>>288888426>>288888426It's the byproduct of children online being increasingly lobotomized by screentime, to the point where their attention span demands that any work they consume must have the prerequisite of a robust fandom or, conversely, that any fandom that they happen upon online belongs to a work that is certainly of value to them in consuming. It's a weird mix of FOMO, lack of self identity, and attempting to imbue efficiency to entertainment. This retard clearly understands why everyone is suddenly posting about HxH again, has enough time to post about his confused rambling, but doesn't have the conviction or self-determination necessary to simply quit or continue, ironically forsaking the time he was trying to save himself in asking others if something is worth his time or not.
>>288888239Even so, it's still leagues above One Piece, Naruto and Bleach in terms of writting quality.
>>288888239I think in the literal sea of trash it is decent. A readable story that isnt too dumb. Decently imaginative. especially the nen system. But that is only because the bar is like, really really low.
>>288888239It's one of the few well-written battle shonen. Battle shonen is a popular genre because it has thriller elements and good characterization, which sells well. Meruem's arc is genuinely very good; it's one of the best antagonists in the medium. It has some issues with pacing, mediocre arcs, or inconsistencies, but it also has some really great things. Considering that other options are garbage like Naruto or One Piece, and that the other battle shonen that seemed to be on the right track didn't deliver (yes, Snk is a battle shonen), it doesn't surprise me that people cling so much to HxH, Fma, and Frieren. Personally I really like it; Togashi knows what he's doing, although I wish the Nen system was more than just allowing you to create whatever power you want. A whole arc to introduce classes and so on, but basically the mcs are specialists or talented and the rest have techniques quite independent of the system.
>>288888426this peaches/plums analogy is kinda bad imo. because the problem is that someone liking peaches and plums is not reducible to anything particularly interesting, cos its just tastebuds receptors smth smth every time. whereas with hxh liking or disliking it could have smth to do with ur psychology at least so it's way more interesting to explore mechanistically
>>288890789Not him, but aesthetic appreciation is not necessarily reducible to psychology.
Goddamn, Bleachtards are already malding THIS hard over having their spotlight stolen by a superior work?
>>288890933you're right. i didn't make the strong claim that it always is reducible to psychology. the point is that it's just a much more worthwhile query than the peach/plum one because the likelihood of it immediately bottoming out is a lot lower.
>>288888794It is compared to HxH to be fair.>>288888950People are more interested in settings rather than stories these days. And HxH is written by a dude who'd rather make rpg settings over stories so its a match made in heaven. That plus the fact it isn't as popular in the west as the big 3 or DB so it has the underdog appeal. Its the same way jojo got as big as it got.
>>288891161Right, I agree
