It usually relies on them being thick, being good homebodies, and the perpetuating of negative work stereotypes and dynamics like seen in this chapter. The mythology created by characters like Senko-san is really just apologism for the current system.I also find it just misses too many important aspects of motherhood. The biggest single dynamic in motherhood is "determining whether the child is ready for something". There's a constant tug of war between the mother's desire for the child to learn something and grow, and the child's actual rate of development. Being a mother requires you to basically hit your head against a blunt object over and over again, constantly trying out new ideas to see if the kid is developmentally capable of grasping them. That element of motherhood, the repetitive and often meaningless labour of teaching, is constantly undermined in favour of the traditional housewife aesthetic.
