When collecting manga whats more valuable 1st print volume chapters or 1st appearance in wsj magazine with 1st chapters.
Why the fuck would you buy a book encased in plastic? You can't read it.
>>288904187It's probably the same deal as when this happened to graded comics and games where almost the entire thing was one guy repeatedly selling to himself at steadily increasing prices and then going to the media to trick people into thinking it has real collector value before rug pulling them. There's also an active antitrust lawsuit against this grading company so there's a decent change that this will all blow up and the items lose their value.
>>288904109>Trying to make manga as retarded as western comicsIt'll never work because Japan actually keeps printing something if someone wants to buy it>One piece volume 1? Yeah it's 500 yen new, 35 yen used.
>>288904598Half of these fucking idiots dont even realize that you could go to japan and buy these for pennies to a dollar at flea market’s and thrift stores.
>>288904109These fuckers have ruined comics. they're currently in the process of ruining TCGs and now they're coming for manga
>>288904849For the TCG it depends on the game. Yugioh, barely any scalpers of big note. Pokemon? Fucking everywhere. The real thing is whether the companies do common reprintings. Yugioh does them all the time. Pokemon almost never does. If you're into Western comics then you already know how they often have this degenerate cover system where they'll sell the same trade with 5 different cover variants just to bait whales. At least in Japan that is rarer. You'll get special editions and stuff, but none of that intentional pandering to scalpers.
>>288904109Scalp all scalpers
>>288904109Only signed and special editions matter
>>288904664They do, that's why they "grade" to create scarcity. Of course you could get a volume 1 of one piece anywhere, but the grading company said mine is 9.5 so I'm the better collectorThey create artificial scarcity just like NFT bros
