Why is it so hard to translate anime ?
>>288907293You're asking why languages used on the opposite sides of the world are different.

>>288907293Still better than AI writing
>>288907733I wonder how popular Star Trek is in Japan.
>>288907789right is just undertale lol
>>288907887Primarily westaboos but I reckon it rubbed off on Yamato and Gundam.
>>288907887I met a guy in Okayama that watched a lot of old Star Trek. He told me that Star Wars is too popular, so he prefers Star Trek
>>288907293Still too natural. Every instance of "you" on the right should be [Name]-kun. Then it would be a proper weeblation.
>>288907293>english speakers seeking more emotional nuance from foreign media and expanding the breadth of their language expression BAD>do NOT evolve your language because some faggots on the internet who don't watch anime will start calling you CRINGE
>>288907733Underrated edit.
>>288907293>leftboring irl convo, sovless>rightSOVLLLLL
>>288907293Lets take the stance of assuming the right is more accurate to the imaginary source material because it probably is. You just lost half the conversation and nuance simplifying it into baby (casual internet) speak first of all.Second of all someone that can only understand the left or needs things to be like the left to read it without struggling is simply not fluent in English. They are the idiots that have teachers making videos about how their students can't even read a fucking book. The person on the right shouldn't be expected to lower the value of a work because incompetent people exist.
>>288907293>Damn, sucks what happened to Yorick. I knew that guy.BRAVO
>>288907293The right is good and im tired of pretending its not. I wish newfags would lurk maor. No matter how you look at it, we'll have to use that every day till they like it, haha. Arigato sensei
>>288907293Because translators are idiots who think everything should sound or read more natural. As long as the meaning is conveyed then a normal person would keep the original structure no matter if it's boring. Also give me notes for the stuff that's actually hard to translate without a close equivalent. Basically it's not that hard most of the time and because it's not that hard translators get bores and go creative with it (this assumes stupidity and not malice).
>>288908297Thats why undertale succeeded, it's a western looking cartoon world with the pacing of an authentic feeling translated anime.
Hey! I have seen this thread on /v/ already!
>>288907374And then there's me speaking before the neurons activate so it's a complete mess
>>288907293This thread is about UndertaleThe right is stuff that the Undertale deer says before you rape her
>>288908961>Lets take the stance of assuming the right is more accurate to the imaginary source material because it probably is.This will never not be EOP copium. The reality of weeblation is actually normal japanese you hear all the time in fiction and irl turning into weird manga english you only find in weebshit. Which is the opposite of accurate fyi.
>>288907293fixed it
>>288908961Bodied that freak.
>>288907887Daicon IV has some Star Trek in it.
>>288907325Best post thus far
>>288907293Because the translator needs to be able to be very familiar with the languages and the scene they are translating. If the translator isn't, he can translate something correctly and still loose the semantics. Example: a translator might translate "mukatsuku" correctly to something along the lines of "to feel irritated", yet still fail to recognize that the scene requires a heavier form of "to feel irritated", because nobody who speaks normal english would use "to feel irritated" in that context. Also, the whole culture of the japs is obviously different so the translator also needs to "translate" that culture to english. A literal translation would read and sound retarded
>>288909880this really ruffles my feathers
>>288907293I talk like this
Why do you think right isn't trying to keep with how the dialogue is done in the Japanese? Manga often is written like right and removing all of that for no reason is more localization than translation.
>>288909880>Also, the whole culture of the japs is obviously different so the translator also needs to "translate" that culture to english. A literal translation would read and sound retardI don't like this idea. We should localize to the characters' culture instead of the readers' culture, even if it leads to some odd word&phrase choices
The scanlation thread sends its regards, innit-kun
isn't this a reposted /v/ thread?
>>288907887It shows how much of /a/ is just /v/ in a skinsuit with this post and these replies.Star Trek is incredibly popular in Japan among otaku. It is the definitive SF series.
