You have been invited to join a Shibou Yuugi thread. Do you accept? It's Carlday and volume 10 is about to release, but I have some thoughts I need to get out about volumes 7 and 8 first.
>>288908995I refuse. G'bye
Carl's assassin gf turned out to be the most interesting to me of the 3 other girls living in her apartment building. I thought for sure it would be Akane instead. The fact that they both ended up thinking they're in the same profession because they're both too autistic to have conversation longer than a few sentences, and that this still wasn't cleared up by the end of volume 8 is pretty funny. I would have liked some more conversations between her and Carl after her chapter in volume 7. It said she was still looking for a purpose but also that she'd changed a little lately.
Carl's foreigner gf didn't really do much. Lemon-chan appears to be the most normal of the group, but she's pretty much only for bullying and kidnapping. She knows Carl came to save her, but has she ever seen what Carl can do? I'm pretty sure she ended up seeing more impressive things from Yayoi in volume 8. And if 2 of Carl's neighbors are also involved in the "underworld", one of them working at a university, how much of Japan's population has to be involved? Also she's the one Carl explained to why she got her haircut. It was really just for "character development" reasons, not any practical ones.
I thought Carl's delinquent gf would be the most fun, but she kinda didn't stick out at all. A whole volume about Carl's out-of-game adventures sounded great and the chapter about her gang was interesting, but Akane herself still felt underdeveloped despite probably getting the most characterization of the 3 neighbors. Or maybe I was just hoping for a different kind of delinquent.
Carl can be really stupid sometimes. In volume 8 she explicitly wonders why she keeps attracting these crazy dykes obsessed with killing her. It's by doing what she did to Kouen at the end so naturally and whispering into her ear that she creates more crazy dykes obsessed with killing her. She really a talent for that. Not that I'll cry over not getting to see Kouen in actual death games. She had it coming.
For volume 8, first off: Fuck you, Ukai. From the first section Awahime appeared in, it was obvious she wouldn't survive the volume, but then every bit of narration about her made her more and more perfect. I hate you.>no stamina, gets winded easily from physical activity>too dumb for academics>too dull to appreciate art or be in a creative profession>too clumsy for physical skills>too asocial to make friends on her own>impulsive>short-sighted>knows all this and hates herself>still somehow has a superiority complex and treats people as beneath her>didn't particularly like the people in Shirou's group but still had fun there because for the first time it felt like having friendsCarl also immediately described her as beautiful and started making awkward jokes. Some things never change. My one cope is that we didn't get a clear confirmation that she died, but I don't expect to see her again either way.
Man these designs are so good.
When someone asked me some time ago what I thought about Shirou and I answered that I could see her and Carl becoming allies, well at the time it felt like there was the potential at least.>brings Carl to her home>makes Carl wait in the living room while she fucks her horny girlfriend into submission for like half an hour>comes back reeking of sexWe also learn that two girls being lovers is a completely unremarkable thing to Carl. When Carl said why she doesn't want to join Shirou, I didn't really expect her to elaborate much more than "I hate you", maybe giving a reason or two. But when she started exploring the depths of her disdain and made Shirou listen to all of it, even that went on for about 3 times as long as I'd have expected from her.
The bit about Carl not having had any strong bond with or feelings for anyone before felt a bit misleading, especially considering the event that made Ghost Carl appear. I'll take it that this was just the first time she's actively realized what made someone a special existence in her life. It's like Ukai wanted me to believe she wouldn't be especially broken up at news of Hakushi's death or something like that. This is the same girl who knows why she cut ties with Tamamo and whose mind split in two out of self-hatred after Royal Palace. The volume also revealed a whole lot about the organization behind the games, almost too much for a single volume. Shouldn't you preserve some of the mystery? We learn how it started, roughly how long it's existed, who's running it at the top, that there's coincidentally a special reward for winning 99 games and it's as cliché as you'd expect. This could have been in the previous post, but I wanted an excuse to post elf Carl. I haven't even started volume 9 yet but all the previews of volume 10 look ominous.
My novel is proceeding very slowly but smoothly enough.
>>288908995Plap plap plap
RIP Carl's beautiful, long hair.
Carl deserves to be raped.
>>288909292Was a nice read through your thoughts, at times I feel like the volumes have been proceeding through the games too fast and taking a little more time to spend on things like volume 7 would have been nice. But I suppose it emphasizes how goal focused and single track minded Carl has been. Not much else mattering to her besides the 99 clears. I'd like to think she doesn't realize herself how much Hakushi matters to her, but it's clear they both value each other a great deal, even if they're bad at showing that. >I haven't even started volume 9 yet but all the previews of volume 10 look ominous. It'll be interesting to read what you think of those two. I'm dying to get my hands on 10.I'm worried about our precious little idiot. She's not in a good place and I there's a chance she won't make it out of the volume alive. It might be a mercy if she doesn't because she's not in a good place. Someone needs to slap some sense into Carl.
There's already a thread? I was going to make one. It's the 99th day since the anime finished airing.Still burning? Did you figure the rest out yourself?
Manga volume 6 cover. Releases 23rd July.
>>288912371I wonder if she feels some sense of betrayal at everyone ganging up on her in this volume. Having to fight and potentially kill someone she knows isn't new for her, but I always thought she and Airi could get along. And you can now buy volume 10. Looks like Melonbooks added even more extras since last time I checked because of her upcoming movie.
>>288914614Going into volume 10 Carl's survival is my #1 hope from this volume. After that it's probably Maguma and Airi. Maguma's preview is dropping death flags like crazy and Airi has a bigger number now so I don't know if she'll make it out since we know how that goes.I've got the physical volume ordered so it'll be a hell of a wait until it arrives, apparently on Monday. If I'm going to read it, I want to feel the tension of turning every page, even if that means missing out on the digital bonus story which seems like it might be interesting. Keito Drowning, I believe. Though there's a bunch of retailer exclusive stuff that got revealed that it feels a little deflating I can't be in Japan to purchase and read them all. The Maguma and Shirou retailer exclusives sound interesting from the titles. Then there's the movie and volume 10 celebration exclusives they're bringing back? I think there's one about Carl getting a lap pillow from Momono, Kokuto's first game and one detailing the conversation between Kyara and Hakushi in Candle Woods. There's so many things that sound interesting it sucks that they're going the way of keeping them all shaved off in this manner.
>>288915050If you're only getting the one physical, then I don't mind posting the Keito bonus here. I'm also expecting the Melonbooks volume 10 but as part of a larger order and not before August. Maybe we can collect and share various store bonuses with a few other anons.I couldn't help spoiling myself by looking at the illustrations. One of them explains how players usually retire, so that gives me a bit of hope that my remaining favorites will survive.
>>288912834I've been burning with the kuzus but I'll be back when Carl's back.
>>288914614>And you can now buy volume 10Where do I look for spoilers?

>>288916541Carl should be in ponytail more often. It's a good look for her.
She's so cool
I read vol 5 the other day.Peak kino writing. I loved it and hated it.Carl is the biggest fucking idiot ever. She scored a literal 11/10 and fucked up everything.
>>288916801Welcome to the club, anon. Nobody can ever accuse Carl of making smart life decisions.
>>288916801There there, it'll be okay.It still hurts.
>>288909102>>288909072>>288909135These light novel designs are amazing. It's too bad they'd get botched animated by director-san.

>>288916541Has there been a bowling death game? It'd probably end in a cliche 7/10 split for the decider.
>>288920504... yes?
>>288920504I don't remember mention of one but definitely not with the Cloudy Beach crew. Most games actually don't end quite so dramatically. In individual competitions Carl tends to just do her thing, i.e. being uncannily good or lucky, and in team competitions she either ends up carrying her team hard or finds some other way to contribute. For example in a team cooking competition she knew she was useless in a kitchen, but she could secure the best ingredients through enough violence.

KAngel > Carl
>>288922534Carl is stupid and makes bad life choices and can't do anything right and can't cook and is a slob and for some reason I'm okay with that. I like that.
>>288922534>>288922556The internet seems to like useless girls that are cute if vtubers are any indication. Carl might have a future in streaming.
>>288922534Lollipop > both of them
Some of the LN fans are insanely mentally ill.
>>288925082What happened?
>>288922534Is KAngel's show good? I need more Carl-genre shows.
>>288925877Ueno storyboarded the most recent episode of Kamiina Botan if you're not already watching that.
>>288925877AOTS and would be my AOTY contender if my soul and undying loyalty didn't belong to PO already but a lot of people don't like it so it's possible you're also mentally deficient like them and wouldn't enjoy it.

>>288926096No, no. Liking that is the sanest thing there is. But some of these bitches have never read a book.

a couple months late...tl note: the official localization translates "call me occhan" to "call me pops" and then immediately drops it and translates every other occurrence to "old man".Vol3 e-book bonus: "Yuuki, Airi, and Pops talk about various things""Speaking of which, why did you choose to do this kind of work?"Yuuki asked. It was in the craftsman's workshop. After clearing the amusement park game, Yuuki went to have maintenance on her prosthetic. The old man tried to surprise her, the blue-eyed player Airi made an unexpected appearance, and other things, but having accomplished her goal and settled down, at that time she asked something she was curious about.A supporter that creates prosthetics for players allowing them to return to the game. It wasn't as hard to understand as being a player in the first place was, but even then, it wasn't a position that someone who lived a normal life would end up in."Is it the money? Players are pretty wealthy...""No..."It seemed like an uncomfortable question for the old man. Based on his response, Yuuki asked "...Is it a complicated situation?""If it's hard to answer, I'll leave it at that.""No, it's not really anything like that, it's just a bit embarrassing.""What could be?""...It's ancestral""Ancestral"An unexpected word came up. "For generations, we've done this job," the old man continued."I'm from a line of craftsmen. It's not much of a special reason."The old man rustled around a nearby shelf for a bit. He picked out a photo, complete with a frame. It was a family photo."Here. This is my dad, and this is my uncle.""...You all have beards huh..."Yuuki stated her thoughts. The old man's family in the picture, men and women, young and old, all had thick body hair. Just as Yuuki started to wonder if it was a hereditary trait that came in handy for the work of a craftsman,
>>288928166"--Wait a minute?"Airi said from the side."How old are you right now?""51. Next month I'll be turning 52.""When you were born, this kind of work already existed?""Well, yeah. When I was born my dad was doing it. At the time, the craft was less developed than it is now though.""When you say generations, you mean your grandfather was doing this too then?""Yep. It seems he did. I never really asked about it, so I'm not sure about the generations before that though...""Doesn't that mean that at least 51 years... or even over a hundred years ago, the games were going on?""...Yeah, that'd be the case."An obvious conclusion. If for generations they've been supporting players, then in the times of those ancestors the games existed."The more I know the more more mysterious this game's management becomes" Yuuki said."It's almost like a urban legend secret society. If someone said it existed all the way back in BC I'd believe it.""You're probably Hakushi's student right? Have you heard anything from your master?""No, nothing. She didn't seem interested, or to know very much. If she doesn't know, probably, no one does.""...No, that might not be the case."Airi muttered. "Do you have someone in mind?" Yuuki asked."..."Airi played with her hair -- that she had grown out on someone's advice -- for a moment before answering."No, it's nothing."
this one is bigger spoilers than usualVol 5 ebook bonus: "Shirou approaches Hakushi"A glass came sliding along the counter. It stopped in front of Hakushi's eyes.Hakushi looked in the direction the glass came from. Three seats down, there was a pompous looking woman. Black and white hair that makes one think of a wolf, and the eyes of someone with a strong desire to rise to the top. She certainly had the aura of someone who would do something so anachronistic. Aside from Hakushi and that woman, there were no other customers in the magic bar."Please, enjoy the drink."The woman said, pointing at the glass. Pale pink alcohol filled the glass, still lightly sloshing."Sorry, I don't drink on anyone else's money."Hakushi responded, sending the glass sliding back in the opposite direction to that woman's spot."It's not like I put something in it", the woman said with a laugh. "Besides, even if I had, would something like that even work on you?""What do you think I am?""The legendary player of 95 games, aren't you? It wouldn't be a surprise if you had a resistance to average drugs."I see, so this woman is a player, Hakushi thought."Sorry for the late introduction. My name is Shirou. Pleased to make your acquaintance."Ignoring Shirou's introduction, Hakushi wondered. Where did this woman learn about me? Hakushi's name was not well known among current players. When most of the playerbase was replaced after Candle Woods, her reputation had disappeared. Since retirement, this was her first time being approached by someone in the business like this. For the moment, Hakushi asked "What do you want?""I'd like to have you use your honed skills for my sake.""Meaning?"
>>288928199"I'd like you to train me." Shirou once again slid the glass towards Hakushi. "In truth, I've only become a player quite recently... I'm searching for a teacher. If I'm going to be receiving training, surely it makes sense to ask the strongest person? So I've come to ask you."Hakushi looked at the glass. She'd have preferred to send it back again, but Shirou probably wouldn't have given up. Without being stubborn, Hakushi sipped the glass. There had been no hint of danger from Shirou, so Hakushi hadn't feared poison in the first place. Then, she answered. "No.""I have no intention of training another student.""I'll compensate you appropriately, of course.""Do I look like I'm in need of money to you?""I don't necessarily mean money. If there's anything I'm able to provide, I will. For example... How does knowing *what the privilege given to those who complete 99 games is* sound to you?"The moment she heard that, Hakushi had tried to be careful not to visibly react. But, "Have I piqued your interest?" came shortly after. Had she reacted, or had she simply been seen through?"...Do you know?""I'm rather well-informed. How about it? An exchange of your know-how for my information..."The privilege for clearing 99 games. It's not as if Hakushi didn't know it existed. She'd heard the story of the player who had made it to 98, and that that girl was aiming for 99 because there was something to gain from it. But this was the first time someone had boasted about knowing what that was. What Shirou had wasn't necessarily the truth. Even if it was, Hakushi had no intention of returning to the game to try for the privilege. But even then, it was natural to be curious. What exactly was this all about? What kind of story had I been in the middle of?"..."Hakushi suddenly opened her mouth, and gave Shirou her reply.
>>288928166I would have pegged him for much older than that.Especially with his vol3 description.>>288928199Thanks for TL.If Hakushi joins Shirou, Carl would be utterly devastated. That's practically NTR.
