>art is amateurish as fuck and only becomes somewhat professional in the last arc
>story has a shit ton of plotholes and inconsistencies
>still a more fun read than any modern shounenshit

How did they do that, kinnikubros?

The power of friendship.

I feel like not only it was part of Shonen Jump's golden of age, it really is a series where you can feel the fans truly adored it. From the fan designs submissions, literal jobbers coming back to have their own spotlights even if they get humiliated again, unfiltered fights and arcs, making the most slandered troupes like power of friendship actually great, old villains coming back in the revival with their goofy abilities to be matched up with new villains with hax abilities so the old villains need to come up with their own old fashion hax.
>niku curtain
>perfect origins
>devil chojin's tears
>ataru kinniku
>dream tag
I can gush all day about how to this day, Kinnikuman is still THAT manga.
It's pretty insane how much Kinnikuman holds longevity and rereading the series made me realise that stuff like the early gags weren't so bad. Characters pulling abilities that made 0 sense to their design or personality somehow is entertaining.
It's one of those manga where you can't judge it 'logically' in a one-sided. Sometimes, FEEL is just as needed.

>art is amateurish as fuck
wow it's almost like it began publishing in the 70s when there was barely any action manga to reference

Are the rumors true?

Space Adventure Cobra was made a year before Kinnikuman made it's debut and the art is amazing. Even Tiger Mask which is even older looked better than early Kinnikuman.

Kevin is Shawn Michaels? yes
Only Jade is the Nashian
>>

Sure, but the standards back then were still much lower.
This is true in pretty much everything in the modern era. Everything has to look better than before, or at least cost more.
I don't necessarily mean that it's "better" now either, but it's clear a lot more detail is put into stuff.

Well yeah, it's a manga about superhuman wrestling. Judging it purely logically would be dumb

Part of the appeal is seeing the author grow as the series progresses too. Something that is professional from day 1 wouldn't have the same appeal.

It's like watching Mexican pro-wrestling

What's more relevant is that the artist was only 16 (or maybe 17) years old when the series started with (as far as I'm aware) no real training or education in art, so it being kind of crummy for a good while only makes sense.

How did they do it?
The human spirit responds positively to SOVL.

>>288915758
nah, most things nowadays are ugly traced 3D or photographs
>>
>>288913913
jump serialized all kind of slop in the 70s, it was a complete joke compared to magazine until Hokuto
>>
>>288915030
yeah and cobra had a million hiatuses
>>
>>288914300
>there was no way to learn how to draw before the 70s
Serious question: are you retarded?
>>
>>288916388
I heard they were hired straight out of high school so probably 17. The editor that they turned into a character for the series was basically their nanny
>>
there was a lot of shit gags, padded moments, and downright asspulls in the manga but compared to contemporary shounen manga at the time I feel like the authors let the supporting cast pull more weight rather than just having the mc do everything
>>
>>288919651
OG Kinnikuman is extremely good at giving good screentime to characters outside of the MC himself, yeah, probably one of it's strongest points.

Meanwhile Nisei not only made everyone that isn't called Mantaro or Kevin worthless fodder but also picked some of the worst options to join the main cast, the hercules factory had so many cool designs like Gyro, Ski Adams and Apolloman and yet they picked 2 furries to join the main cast and later they even had fucking Barrierfreeman joining the main cast. That would be the equivalent of having the likes of Cubeman, King Cobra or Benkiman becoming Idol Choujins in the classic series.

Modern shounenshit would never do something this cheesy and yet so sincere and that's why Kinnikuman is the GOAT
>>
>>288914300
Nah, Kinnikuman's art at the beginning was pretty bad even for the time. But it made up for it by being charming, and ultimately improving over time.

It's almost like people consume stories to have fun
