As far as I can see this will be their first anime which doesn't bode well
As for the others
>Shinya Watada (Rock is a Lady's Modesty, Aikatsu Stars!, Gundam Build Fighters Try) is directing the anime at CA Soa, and Michiro Tsuchiya (Akane-banashi, ClassicaLoid, Suikoden: The Anime) is in charge of the series scripts. Michinori Chiba (Basilisk, Sk8 the Infinity, Mobile Suit Gundam 00) is designing the characters, and Hitomi Kotō (Sparks of Tomorrow) is composing the music.

I expected this to be Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer tier because the manga is read by 5 people and clearly hard to animate, but this is surprisingly solid for a lower budget work. Cautiously optimistic for an okay adaptation when I expected disaster.

The music is just filler.
No foley work has been done I bet, so they just put some generic classical in the background.
Pretty common to do when making one of these PVs when you're far before release.

I think the point of showing so much is to gain some confidence from the production committee that the project is being worked on and that there's no chicanery going on.

This is a feeling so complicated I don't even know what I'm feeling.

On one hand I want the authors to live long and prosper and the anime should get them enough recognition and manga royalties.
On the other hand, Bulge Call threads are super comfy and normalfags aren't ready for the crazy futurist train ride when even some manga readers couldn't handle it.

>>289032295
There are literally ZERO videogame elements on this manga, beyond the visuals used for Lucas's ability that the author said in an interview was just an easy way to show people how it truly worked.
>>289032203
Yes, it's my favorite fantasy manga. Its strong point is the writing. I feel like the marketing and the very start of the manga sells it as a sort of strategy action thing like it's going to be just about tactics but it's more about the characters. There's a lot of action teamwork stuff but once their actual personalities get developed it's very drama-ish. It has some similarities to Attack on Titan though not in tone or execution. Some things are reminiscent of Elden Ring even if it's much lower fantasy than it. But that's kinda what to expect.
>>
>>289033048
Aside from the dedicated hateAnon that always hangs around the threads I don't think it'll have much influence on the quality of the threads. The daily didn't have any bad consequence either. The manga kinda attracts chill people, beyond normalfags out of this site who cry controversy with the Zoe stuff.
>>
>>289035828
I really don't think so. Tokyo Ghoul had the exact edgy teen aesthetic which made its audience slurp it up like drugs. Choujin is just a wild mix of things Ishida likes.
>>
>>289035961
While yes, there are no explicit vidya elements, its strategy is very reminiscient of RTS games where using your hero units efficiently at the right time is the win condition.
>>
>>289036355
Fucking Tolkien and his video game bullshit.
>>
>>289036355
It still has nothing like what people call videogame elements, which are things that resemble videogame systems in-story. Without going to the extreme of isekai stories, there's some stuff in Frieren that would fit the bill even if they're much lighter than in those stories if you really wanna criticize it for that... like character classes, the one minimap spell, clear inspiration on the Dragon Quest stereotypical hero vs Demon Lord story and some things almost setup as quests, etc. There's no such things here beyond the visuals of Lucas ability. It has some clear inspiration but they come from other media, the aesthetics are very Soulsy, the execution of some powers like the speedster are clearly inspired by X-men movies, etc. but none of it are about in-universe systems. Lucas's ability for example gets explained later on and it has nothing to do with RTS. It's just how the artist chose to portray it to convey what sort of formations he's having them do.

You fuckers told me it's on the verge of getting axed
I am NEVER listening to any of you fuckers ever again

>>
>>289036641
At the cost of repeating myself, I know there's no explicit vidya elements and the author took no inspiration from RTS. I already said so.
The point is that Lucas can command huge armies with pinpoint accuracy and uses Hero units in similar fashion so on the readers side it reminds them of that genre. Nothing more to it than that.
Same way you can recommend someone who likes Total War to read Youjo Senki. Frieren on the other hand is just straight up videogame shit and barely fantasy.
>>
>>289036355
Large scale warfare has been present in fantasy since its inception.
I do see Fromsoft inspirations in bugle call and only thematically (with Lucas being an obvious nod to Miquella), but other than that, there's nothing videogamey about it. Some situations are inspired by movies and shows, i think the author loves Monty Python at the very least.
>>
>>289037586
Oh my god. Once again, you're missing the point. No fantasy character has had the power to directly control large armies in the way Lucas does. Add in Hero units and a pseudo-campaign mode and it's the same mechanics as the player in an RTS. What part do you not get?
And you keep mentioning the FromSoft/Elden Ring inspiration but I don't see it at all, as it's just good fantasy aeasthetic. Follow the argument.
>>
>>289035961
Beyond the references to games like Elden Ring, there's also the whole style of the presentation that feels very video gamey.
Lucas's commands to his army look like they come straight out of an RTS game. Or elements like the gravity cannon the Mirror Ramus uses, feel exactly like a video game fanbase creation from a game like Minecraft, more than a typical fantasy genre item.
The internal logic of the series is closer to a game than Gene Wolfe.
>>
>>289037840
Do you understand what the concept of "hero units" is based on?
>>
>>289037840

The aesthetic for the fantasy elements is similar and there's actual From Software equipment showing up as a clear reference so it's clearly directly inspired. The Druids are also really, really similar to Elden Ring lore and Lucas has too many parallels with Miquella.

Bugle Call was simply moved from a monthly to quarterly magazine while it is serializing its final arc. Some people find hard to pick up the nuance.
Though, there are occasionally axed manga which get anime adaptation. Like that piece of shit Kill Blue airing now.

No matter how it turns out I'm really happy the manga got recognition and I'm really happy for the authors. Their first full-fledged manga and it's getting an adaptation, that's quite a feat (I think?). Love this series like you wouldn't believe

I feel like originally he was meant to be more of an evil fanatic and that the authors later on made him into a way more sympathetic and complex character. I think they knew how out of place it looks in hindsight and that's why it gets mentioned in Southampton when they're all reminiscing.

>The last arc is the best arc

>>289042033
To add more, a bunch of things at the start look different and I feel like the authors corrected course later on. The mercenaries not knowing about Branched is really weird when there's like, entire countries based on Branched powers and they've been around shaping war for ages. The manga does excuse it later on and adds that part of the Pope officially disclosing the existence of them and whatnot but it still felt like them straightening out something that was iffy at the beginning.
There's also something minor and it's that all the Branched look like they have to put effort to use their powers, this gets changed to just their branch crackling without any kind of physical exertion.

>>

>>
>>289045583
A bit after the battle in the circular city (the name escapes me). There's a downtime chapter or two where Zoe blows up a cesspit, and the Udo leaves. It's like chapter 25 or something. I bet we're going to get about that far in the first season.
>>
>>289045478
>>289045407
I think Udo could show up as the post-ending hook, and his flashback of having his nose cut could be transplanted to the flashbacks that show Looking Glass in her prime. For example there's one where she cuts down some guys with the Kaidan Mercenary armor from Elden Ring and then kills a random spear Branched. This could be replaced with her beating Udo.
