I watched all of Nanoha for the first time over the last couple months and I have mixed feelings about recommending movies as entry point.Movie 1 could use a couple more scenes to expand on background characters, ojou classmate having huge metal bars cage in her yard came out of nowhere, while series already established that she's running a pet shelter during the mutated kitten episode.Movie 2 cutting out all the political conspiracy grew on me as a way to move from strikers tone to a more classical magical girls vs cosmic horrors, but other than that some dialogues and event sequences were better in the series, like the dramatic rescue at the very beginning>Nakama?>Tomodachi!

Didn't see this thread. I rewatched the first season recently and just watched the 1st movie for the first time. I wasn't that into it at the beginning because of how quick it goes but the second half picked up. I still like the series more as I like its series of events as well as it having time to explore some of the side characters as well. Well at least Nanoha did show up in the first episode. I agree with a lot of the criticism so far. The 3D monsters don't look that good. I do think the action looked cool, but the bitrate of this stream couldn't keep up. Need to rewatch with a good encode. Raising Heart's first words already sounded weird with the new voice. But like I said previously, so far there's no indication that the first part of the prequel manga mattered at all and only the most recent chapter seemed to have anything to do with this new story.

That was better than expected but it feels like it would have work more as a game. A jrpg where you hunt aliens using your dead imouto as a persona sounds fun. That being said, I hate RH's new voice and design.

For all of StrikerS and Force's flaws, Hayate only got hotter and hotter with age, so I was never dissatisfied. I'm glad that the manga contrived a reason to artificially make her look older. Bless them.

Then season 2 and strikers happen and they show how children being forced to fight and take responsibility for adults is obviously fucked up.Within Midchildan society, they almost don't distinguish between child and adult. Seems like having magic matters more than anything else. Far from perfect, but to some degree the meritocracy works for them. There's something valid in there about having respect for children as people and not holding the exceptional ones back in traditional roles. But the villain in Nanoha so far, without exception, is an adult who takes advantage of children.
