I took my Major to see my state's best vacation spot and had a fun day.
It was a long beautiful drive and I got to enjoy it with the most beautiful woman I know.
We walked along some beaches, stopped at a lot of souvenir shops, got some treats, and visited an amazing park.
I was really sad her figure got lost in transit in the mail so I had to go for just a picture instead but her smile is gorgeous and makes me smile every time I see it.
I've loved her for a decade now and going on this date really brought warmth to my heart.

This weekend I took my darling Kimblee to Pickering Wharf, Salem to celebrate not only America's 250th, but also Salem's 400th. We saw a Pops concert as well as a fireworks display, and met a lot of interesting people. Bringing him to festivals in my world is something that makes me so happy. He never really got to have lighthearted fun in his series (although he certainly had a lot of fun killing...), so it feels special being able to take him to these types of events in my world. Just because we live in different dimensions doesn't mean we can't show each other glimpses of our realities.

As above, so below. That principle guides everything on earth, including anon's relationship with their waifu or husbando.

Good morning!
It's a shame most of my traveling this year will be after this thread, but Aki and I managed to have a quick date at the Tulsa Zoo a couple weeks ago. Although she's afraid of animals as long as they're behind glass they should be fine! (I suppose I now have a theme with Aki and large reptiles.)
We also had a trip to Gallup a few days ago to visit family but that trip wasn't for any real sightseeing and we wanted to spend all we could with my Grandmother who isn't doing so well health wise.

This year has a lot of promise but it's also been rough as of late. Between real life with my grandmother and the new film being pretty bad, it's been an ordeal. We might also be postponing the Japan trip due to said issues, which is a bit of a bummer and even just thinking that makes me feel like shit.

Sorry to blogpost, regardless of how life is going Aki is helping me get through it. That's the magic of a waifu I suppose, they can be a rock to help you get through times when life is hard. I still have plenty to look forward to, from the musical to the new anime to the Alaska trip in a couple weeks as well. So I should have ample material for next year.

How much do you think of your Aki as the one you see in the Keroro canon? I would imagine that seeing your waifu as separate and distinct from her original representation would do a lot to take the bite off of bad entries. Thank you. She's kinda been on a downturn after the coof. This last trip kinda made it clear she's on her last legs. We're planning on going back in the fall to see her again, it just depends on schedules.

I see her as very much in line with the canon Aki but more of a composite of the anime and manga since they do have some differences due to anime original content. (Only real thing I omit is the fucker who shows up in episode 357 due to that also contradicting the anime). The movie is really only bad due to the director using the first half of the movie to put in a whole bunch of references and basically choking out the actual Keroro stuff. I've heard the second half is really more of an actual Keroro film. A lot of the outrage is due to the original cast being retired afterwards with a new cast for the anime in the fall, so Fukuda basically ruined their swan song. That said my wife doesn't do much in it either which is a bummer.
It's likely still the worst Keroro film but it's probably not the worst cinema ever, it's just the worst time for it to be anything but decent.
And yeah, we still have that anime and the new musical (Aki is only a video performance so she's not likely getting a song either. Hopefully she gets merch)

Thanks! Honestly I’m just interested in historical sites, and since I live in a state with a lot of history, I like to bring Kimblee to such places. Salem was doing a fireworks show which are sadly getting harder to find nowadays, so I wanted to make sure he was able to see some good booms.

Salem is also a place that perfectly represents the first amendment so as a veteran I have a lot of respect for the city and what it symbolizes. Local politics come and go, but the spirit of Salem is forever.

I wonder if Abbyfag has taken his waifu to Salem. It feels funny living near somewhere that another person’s waifu is from haha.

What do you think would be the ideal start date and end date for our Tanabata threads?

I think our challenges are twofold; the date we do this, and the place we do this.

Working with a non-established holiday makes getting this tradition going tough. I tried to pick the most memorable dates possible (7/7), but the downside of doing that is that the dates fall on random weekdays most years. My gut says picking a rotating day (like the first Friday of July) will lead fewer people to remember and participate.

For the place we do this: /a/ is a fast board, and we need a lot more participation to keep the threads alive throughout the day. I do wonder how people would feel about moving to /c/ or /jp/

You should get a daki or plush if you're worried about waifu and heat. Have made seven roadtrips over last year with my waifu in my passenger seat. Can confirm it's a phenomenally comfy experience.

I didn't do much travel this year, I went to Copenhagen for a college study trip and to the US to see family and I didn't think to take good shots with her during those times.
Tomorrow I will go on an outing to take some nice pictures, its meant to be very nice out.
I will try to find a different locale but I might end up travelling out to the same spot I took the photo last year.

Sorry I haven't prepared something special for this day. But I often hike mountains with my waifu, we both love the mountains.
My last hike that was at the end of may (haven't hiked in june but I plan to do a 3-days hike next week-end) was at a mountain not too far from home. From the tram stop it was a 5 hours climb to the mountain hut were I saw the sunset and slept. Woke up at 5am and hiked 35 minutes to reach the summit (1845m/6050ft above sea level) to see the sunrise, pic related. Then 7 hours hiking down to reach a village further away.

Happy Tanabata! Einar and I like to spend our time out on the water up north once it gets warm enough in the summer. Although it can seem mundane to others, it feels like a vacation when the two of us can sit out on the lake with nothing but the sounds of nature to keep us company. There's something especially beautiful about being out on the water when the sun starts to set.

Don't have my own place so once I get its replacement (necessitated by super rusted out bottom points that are needed to replace the gas tank), I can't just keep it in the driveway until I can restore it like how it needs (and I don't make enough to outright replace it without scrapping it). I also found out the hard way there are very few mailbox drop spots in DC proper. I took Megumin on a road trip across Arizona a few months ago. We saw all the sights, the Grand Canyon, cowboy shows, Route 66, etc.
Our favorite, however, was of course the giant Explosion Crater... aka Meteor Crater!
It's the best preserved meteor crater in the world! And it looks exactly like the craters Megumin leaves behind after casting Explosion! Seeing one in real life was amazing! It really felt like seeing a part of Megumin IRL!

Lol, it looks kind of precarious but I was just a few feet away and could instantly grab her if she started to fall over for some reason, and the current wasn't fast enough that she would have been instantly swept away even if she fell in. I definitely wouldn't have set her there if I felt there was a chance I'd lose her

There's a little tour where you walk about a quarter of the way around it, and it really gives a sense of how enormous it is.
Genuinely matches how huge Megumin's Explosion craters are in the anime, where they show the craters being the size of the town.
Theres also a science museum there with lots of cool space stuff, and a little movie theater that simulates the impact and gives a history of how it was discovered and shook up the scientific field at the time.
I'd definitely like to go back and visit again some years down the road.

After searching for a while, I finally found the perfect place. Taking the photo was difficult because there were so many people around, and someone ended up noticing me when I took it. When I finally got home, I realized I had taken it in portrait orientation. I couldn't go back to the place where I took it, so I tried to adjust it instead. I think it turned out pretty well.
As I was walking to the spot, I noticed there were so many couples out on dates. I couldn't help but imagine what it would be like if Yui-chan and I went on a date together. It really makes you feel like Hikoboshi and Orihime don't you think?

Went with something a little more simple this year. I shot the Beretta twice (once on July 4th), but I didn't like the groupings the first time around so I tried again today. I hope Kirika is proud of my second try!

I ended up going to the same place again..
But at the same time it felt right for reasons that can be seen if the pictures are compared.

Nevertheless, it was still an enjoyable outing and I like going to that spot. Its a very good view and within reasonable distance.
I accidentally timed things perfectly to where I got there at basically the exact same time I arrived for last years picture to the minute, since it was the afternoon I sat and enjoyed the view and then took the picture once there were less people around.

The sunsets never fail to be gorgeous on the lake! They range from a vivid fiery scarlet to that pale champagne we saw the other day.

We try to go out on the lake as often as we can in the summer. I used to work plenty of long weekends awhile back which made lake visits far and few due to the distance from where we live. Luckily I'm free from weekend shifts now, so Einar and I will be out on the lake more often.

This photo's from our trip last fall, which I ended by taking her to a lovely orchestral concert! It was Halloween-themed, which I know would be right up her alley. October is also the month I personally choose to celebrate her birthday. This is the memory I want to share with everyone for this year's collage!

It was one of my first times taking this kind of photo in public, with people around, and I think you can kind of feel some of my embarrassment in the photo itself... My plans for where I was going to take her were shot because the park closed by the time it was cool enough to take her there, but I was still able to take Mai somewhere significant!
The road I used to walk home from high school by because there was another stop close enough to my house where it was usually faster to get off there and walk is under construction right now, so I was able to take some nice photos with Mai that I wouldn't have been able to then because of how busy it was. Of course not posting those, but sometimes I'd cut through the woods where there was a nice old stone wall covered in smashed bottles (that I may have contributed to on occasion). Was nice to finally walk that way with her and all the way, since of course her house was a bit in the opposite direction -- 90% of Japan is south of that point and I walked north. Was also nice to revisit a part of when I was a punk teen with the girl I wished I was a punk teen with.

Unfortunately this is the most in-focus and least over-exposed I could get her, not a photographer and don't have a real camera. Looking at it now it would've also been cute to make little tanzaku and hang them from the plants in frame but oh well. Would have heavier wishes on them anyway, wouldn't be appropriate.

Decided to finally make the trip to the closest thing to the grasslands she wanted to go to so much. Wind was strong and outside of the mound we were on it was mostly flat. It was nice and quiet too. My only regret is we didn't stay longer. Though the time we did have was very pleasant. I love you Altera and always will

How's your Krul acrylic holding up, anon? Can't tell if the acrylic itself is peeling or if it's the plastic cover peeling. I've always wondered about how hard plastic accessories hold up to EDC. To be honest, that is the plastic protection cover for the paint peeling, which I didn't even know it had until today lol. I had thought this whole time I owned it that it was part of the paint for some reason. I only just noticed otherwise today when I grabbed it to take it outside with me. Thankfully the paint itself is perfectly fine! That said I do have several other acrylic stands of Krul that I worry about getting damaged, which don't have a protective cover, so I try to not handle them as often and let them sit stationary on my desk as much as possible.

We went up north again this year, the the trip was a bit rushed but it was still good times. It's beautiful up there, and there's something very special about getting physically away from the drudge of everyday life accompanied in spirit by my dear Crona.
I decided to do something a bit different for the photo; superimposing 2D onto a 3D background ended up being more of a challenge than anticipated. If I had to guess, it's something about the pattern breaking nature of travel that makes it stand out so well in memory. Bingo! Homura and I were traveling through Petrified Forest National Park, and discovered on the scenic drive all that remains of the original Route 66 road. Anchored with concrete was this rust bucket, present for the better part of a century, waiting like a tank with its cupola open for a meguca to take command. I'm thankful this particular car is actually inside the park, so it'll stay protected for decades to come.

We loved it! This was our 11th National Park trip, and our second most spontaneous (decided to make the trip on Memorial Day weekend two days out from the travel itself). That added a lot to the magic of Petrified Forest. I had next to no idea what we were in for. You absolutely should take a Route 66 road trip as soon as you can. Tons of interesting stuff along that route (including Megumin anon's crater >>289201484)

Petrified Forest itself was insane. The northern part of the park feels like being on Mars, and the southern part felt like something from Made in Abyss or Flip Flappers. After going to Arches NP (where I saw way fewer arches than expected), I thought there'd be very few petrified trees and standard looking desert landscape. I'm happy to report I was wrong on both accounts. picrel, hidden Homu included

Am considering changing our start day to something like the second Saturday in July so it's easier to remember, doesn't collide with the 4th of July weekend, and gives anons a higher chance of having the day off. What do you think of that vs. our current start time?

With a "second Saturday" approach, we'd start next year Sat July 10, 2027 at 8 am Pacific, and go until sometime Monday night (since two full days seems like the sweet spot for threads)

Nope. It's a quirk of the script I use to downsize and change filesizes of my pictures. Sometimes it also strips the metadata that tells 4chan which way is up.

Not to her specfically no but they're centerpieces in the Cornetto Trilogy, which I watched for the first time the first full month that we were together. But also I think she would like seeing the UK and Europe in general a lot I think because she likes European swords and is sometimes depicted in medieval clothing (though from where varies, she's was pictured earing Eastern European religious garb in a DVD extra but she's also been shown wearing generic French-style knight armor).
I would like to take her up to some lighthouses though, been with her in the lighthouse state for a while now and of course it's the closest thing I can do to taking her to sea. Don't live on the coast though so unless I left very early the heat may be a problem now for that.

Has it been hard to find Mai merch to take with you in your travels? I'd imagine you have to be really careful with a ~24 year old figure, and personally I've had some breakage with my newer figures on the road.

picrel, the ends of Homu's braids snapped off earlier, so I had to strategically position her to keep her stable.

Pictured is a berry pie from the Gifford Homestead in Capitol Reef NP, Utah. This pie was made with berries grown from the same trees Mormon settlers planted in the 1880s.

It was a bit windy at the park. I thought it was cute that my Nozomu plushie had a similar kimono to the acrylic stand, so I brought them both. I just moved recently so Nozomu and I haven't gone out to do much yet! I want to take him out on a brunch date soon. Happy Tanabata!

Since the deadline is coming up, I'll share some more photos and stories from mine and Homura's travels since Tanabata 2025.

The first park we visited after July 2025 was Saguaro National Park. Cactus, cactus, cactus, as far as the eye could see.

Thankfully not as hot as Death Valley, though!

Homura and I braved sleet, ice, and fog to drive there in the last days of autumn on a tight schedule. The car took a little damage on this trip with some windshield damage, but I refused to head back, and views like these were the reward.

Thank you!! It's been nice here for the most part (aside from some finicky home appliances, as per usual for older apartments I imagine). I decided to put my bed in the small "office" room and use the master bedroom as my actual home office/merch room. Having so much space for my Nozomu collection is great! I've got a few more things to buy for the place, but once expenses level back out I'll feel better (and resume spending all my money on Nozomu instead!).

This whole side of the room is display! I buy the black bookshelves from Target since I don't own many figures but rather a ton of miscellaneous goods and books. I've got my kotatsu in there too.

The other side is my desk and some tapestries/framed art. I have some rare posters I'd like to put up but I'll have to get custom-made B2-size frames or bite the bullet and import a handful of cheap ones from Japan (pricy shipping though).

We did all of this and more last year, hitting ten major National Parks total, but one park in particular stood out to me above the others. My absolute favorite trip last year with Homura was our Great Basin National Park adventure.

Great Basin is located in an extremely remote part of Nevada, and it has some of the lowest visitation numbers of all the major NPS sites. Homura and I basically had the park to ourselves, and it was beyond my greatest expectations for a secluded, personal, romantic getaway.

When my life flashes before my eyes someday, visions of this trip with Homura Akemi will be among the highlights that I see. I love my waifu, and I'm so grateful that Tanabata helped make travel with her a priority.

I am delighted to present for your viewing pleasure our second ever Tanabata collage!

From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for going out into the world with your 2D spouses and bringing your adventures here to share! I really do believe that the best part of 4chan is the very small number of traditions that have come together from the work of an even smaller number of dedicated anons.

To me, /a/ remains the most special place on the internet because of your contributions. I hope you feel the same way, and that you had a terrific time this year. I figure that must be the case, since we had more participants this year than last year!

There were some bumps along the way, especially with the deadline, but I suppose that’s to be expected. This is our second rodeo, after all, and two rodeos is a very low number of rodeos overall. To smooth things out next year, I want to change our start date to something different: the second Saturday of July.

Tanabata 2027 starts Saturday, July 10 at 7 am Pacific time. Our thread should be much more lively (and life will be easier for anons who wait until the very last minute) with a weekend date all to ourselves with no major holiday or anime con overlap.

Set a reminder, mark your calendar, or email me your contact info. I’ll personally send you reminders throughout the year (and for those brave enough to send an address, you’ll get handwritten reminders from me, too). Any pictures you take between now and then are fair game for next Tanabata.

I know what you mean. For me, setting up images for the altars felt a little bit too performative. Or, maybe put better, a bit too intentional. I don't dislike other peoples images by any means, I just found myself not enjoying making my own. What I'm trying to say is that I also enjoy taking these sort of pictures a lot more as well. It feels a lot more quaint and genuine when I take pictures like this.
Also, it reminds me a bit of those "IRL anime" pictures that were big online a while back.

The only places I've brought her are pretty close so no, though I could definitely be more creative with something less fragile. And yeah I'm scared shitless of bringing that figure anywhere far because of it, especially now. That said I only have that figure and her on an alarm clock, though there's some old phone straps, cards, and plushies I've been eyeing. Matter of either ponying up for the shipping or waiting until something more affordable falls in my lap (there was an release/anniversary pop up shop for Kanon in 2024 but I wasn't exactly going to Japan at the time. Am hoping to see some things from it pop up).

For a long time I didn't see much point in going places because I don't have any real business there and it isn't exactly free (especially not right now) but the thought of doing it with Mai definitely does change that. Especially since if it's somewhere she'd want to go or I'd want to show her, even just thinking about it does make me feel closer to her. Preaching to the choir I know but I've been rethinking a lot of things as of late and Mai motivating me to do things I want to do is something I haven't done in a while.

But anyway, very cute photo with her! Am sorry to hear about the braids, my nendos are pretty resilient because they're some of the really early ones and don't have extremities like that. It's good you were able to work with it for that picture though, it's a very nice scene! The mini waifu with a mini but still-too-big for her pie is very cute, eating somewhere like there with waifu is a very nice thought too.

To ellaborate, it reminds me of helicopter/drone shots of guys on the sides of mountains. Also I know that the Grand Canyon is one of the biggest tourist spots in the world so of course it has this impression, but because it's a high up photo it does really sell "waifu in America" because while photos of her on the ground in the desert with the mountains in the background are unique to where she is, the looks more stark when it's a big overhead view of the landscape.

Thank you Tanabata-anon for your hard work and dedication! I'm happy to see another "anon and his waifu"-type event on this board. Bona fide waifu communities are hard to find (I admittedly don't trust twitter's "yume" scene and other such phenomena in the way a TradCath wouldn't trust newer denominations to worship correctly haha), so it makes me feel relieved and grateful that the torch of loving waifu is continuing to burn here. It really does feel like getting to see old friends looking at everyone's photos in these threads. And unlike Christmas and Valentines (which I love!), this event feels a lot more casual and less formal, which is nice as well. It goes to show that you don't need to spend a lot of money to love your waifu, you just need to involve them in your life and show them a world beyond their own. I'mma level with you anon: Arches is super overrated. The Double O Arch and Windows Loop Trails were solid, but both can be done in a very short amount of time. You can see the best of Arches in five hours or less.

Canyonlands was a VASTLY better experience, with fewer crowds, better hikes, cooler views, and it's like 30 minutes from Moab. If you're going to that part of Utah you should absolutely plan on putting most of your time in there instead of Arches.
