It's to a degree that it should be immersion-breaking if we weren't so used to it.This must be done with the belief that so many viewers are using tv speakers, smartphone spakers, and so on. Everything is mastered so they can at least understand what's being said, to the detriment of audio quality for everyone else.I mean a $30 pair of IEMs is all you really need for decent audio quality, so I'm of the opinion that audio should be mastered for quality first. If you're using crappy equipment, hey, we're in the digital age. Dynamic range compression, high pass, and so on can all be done very cheaply by whatever horrible little device may need it.Symphogear has some of the very worst of this, the audio is absolutely ruined, and they fucking crush the quality of music and sound effects to nothing. Even on the CDs, the mastering quality of the music, which I quite like, is unfortunately really bad.This Nanoha show fortunately is not nearly that bad.Western movies and shows mastered like movies have often gone the other way, making dialogue like -25db to have more room for bass boosted explosions and Hans Zimmer music. People complain about that too. TV speakers were just as bad in the 90s as now but shows were mastered for them. Now you need at least a soundbar to watch anything besides the news. If you do have the ability to watch these on their intended volume with speakers, you will piss off your housemates and neighbors (which I do).
