I suspect Miura was preparing for the manga to go until the anime aired. But when they told her it was ending at ch250 she had to speedrun the arc. Taiki was supposed to weigh badminton versus friendship then decide he doesn't want to sacrifice anything. Instead there were two chapters of the neighbor making him feel uncertain followed immediately by the tournament and "doesn't matter, had sex".
