The franchise as a whole suffers from the fact that despite the original manga being in essence a buddy cop story, the actual story itself is pretty short and ends just with the Major merging with the Puppetmaster. That will always constrain what Ghost in the Shell can be. GITS 1.5 and 2 are barely even the same story and are way too niche and confusing to really be a natural continuation of the story that anyone can adapt.

The gameplay's the best part here, and while it's kind of wonky sometimes(as PS1 games usually are), it's very fun, having been made by the Jumping Flash devs. If you're looking for a super satisfying story or want to play as the Major, then this one's not your jam, as the entire game is played in a Tachikoma. Really great soundtrack, too.3. PSP. This one's a pretty awful shooter, with really repetitive levels and awful controls that can be worked around if you're emulating it or playing on a different device that allows remapping. The story here is passable, however, and it's about the only reason to play it. It gets the SAC vibes right since it was written by Shotaro Suga and Ryo Hikawa. However, it's written in a fairly simple style, probably because they didn't want kids to get lost playing it.

Before the next episode comes out, here's a previous episode summary, with added info from the manga (and none of the headcanon that you see in other posts):Aramaki of Public Security busts a slave trading deal, only to have the culprits nearly slip through his fingers, before Motoko steps in and cleans it up.>Public Security is listening in on a deal between some diplomats, including a Soviet trade rep and the assistant secretary of Japan's department of commerce.>The deal involves Japan sending workers to the Soviet Union, along with the means to manipulate blood flow in their cyberbrains to make them work whatever job is necessary, which makes for an ideal socialist state.>Meanwhile Motoko, a cyborg with years of experience in military and counter-terrosim operations, is working separately from Aramaki, with her own mission.>Aramaki busts the meeting, and mentions he also has evidence of the assistant secretary's involvement in the former prime minister's assassination.>But the trade rep's just gonna walk out, and take the secretary with him, because they granted him asylum.>Aramaki's powerless to do anything, as they're protected by bureaucracy and red tape, but Motoko steps in to assassinate the trade rep.>She later meets with the minister of internal affairs, with the assassination order signed by the late prime minister, who chose her because she was exceptionally skilled.>She also uses this to negotiate the formation of a special anti-terrorism task force.This whole intro sequence sets the scene, with cyberbrain technology being advanced enough to turn people into slaves with small modifications, and the politicians behind it can get away with it through bureaucracy and red tape, even with boatloads of direct evidence. It's then contrasted with Motoko cutting to the point and executing the trade rep directly, and getting away with it because it was an order from the prime minister. It shows the world they live in and Section 9's future role in it.

This is because it's his third escape attempt, and the orphanage's policy is to mind wipe or kill a kid after three.
