The stunning thing is how much slower it is to process cel animation and at the same time it seems like it takes longer for shows to come out. New Panty and Stocking seems like it took two years from announcement to air. Bocchi the Rock isn't out yet. How long ago was that announced? About the only thing that gets released concurrently is whatever shonen series makes bank. Back in the 90s' you couldn't afford to wait long. So even though it was WAY more labor intensive to paint and animate cels and draw backgrounds on paper the studios were actually delivering way more quickly getting new seasons.
