People will watch this shit, say "present day present time" and then repeat the first few words of Boa - Duvet for over 20 years while never actually discussing the show and claim it's one of the best anime of all time.
>>289341234レインを好きになりましょう!
>>289341234I couldn't really tell you what it's about, but I enjoy it and believe that Lain should be worshipped as a goddess of the Internet.
>>289341319Then maybe you should watch it again
>>289341234Haha, yeah. It really be a "present day, present time" moment. "And you don't seem to understand~"
>>289341234nah you just havent been around for any of the good discussion over the years.
>>289342011Let's hear the good discussion then.
>>289342146you first
>>289342146Can we discuss Lain’s panties? Panties say a lot about a girl. I’d go as far as saying that’s the most important part of the show. It has a whole different meaning if Lain is in plain white panties vs red lacy ones. Puts everything in a whole different context.
>>289342252my headcanon is that lain is nopan
>>289341234The first time I tried to watch episode 1, I didn't understand anything, so I didn't continue. I was young and unprepared, but now that I've watched it, I think I understand the events and themes well. It's a good anime for filtering people. I watched it all without knowing if I could trust Iain.
>>289342166Present day present time
>>289342372now that you mention it, i think it's cool that every episode starts off with that statement. it's almost as if it's commenting on future generations ability to stream the episodes (or watch on demand through torrenting or by whatever means) and how they likely require the internet to do so. it's like, present day present time this anime is being watched, and (you) dont seem to understand the show's messages by the very nature of using the internet to watch the show.
>>289341234Same shit with Evangelion.
>>289342398tbf the expectation back then was probably that you'd be watching on DVD's, not the internet.
>>289343372the whole thing about it is peering into an alternative timeline about internet usage and its consequences of blurring the lines between what's real and what isn'teven if you were watching on a dvd im sure the message would've still connected, considering the surrounding climate. (it does today too)
>>289343404Yeah, but I think watching it via an internet source really hammers it home. The whole "the internet will warp society/life" hits harder today watching it on my PC that I use eight hours a day than it would if I was watching it via DVD on the living room tv back at the turn of the millennium
>>289343446to be honest i dont know how many people wouldve been watching it that early on anyway. especially gaijin. it's mostly a time and place thing where you were japanese and stayed up late and saw it airing on television, or if you were an otaku you stayed up every night once a week to watch it all the way through. now that had to have been something.

>>289343514>>289343446(me again)it isn't like lain was a standalone piece of art though either like a lot of anime fans who dont know anything treat it as. as an outsider who didnt experience it first-hand in japan, if you want to understand lain you should look to adjascent media, such as precursor anime, or live action film or visual novels that came out around that time, within such an atmosphere which lain was a part ofi.e. sogo ishii movies, or key the metal idol etc
>>289343528Tldr lain is god, because masami encoded frequencies to gaia (earth aka Lain) using protocol 7
Despera never ever, they will never assemble a team that made Lain ever again
>>289342146I'm sorry you weren't alive 20 years when we discussed it
>>289341234Haven't watched Lain, but I can easily guess why people never discuss a show like this on /a/. Shows like this always get a flood of people calling everyone that likes it a pseud (which is ironic) and the threads end up low quality shitflinging. Didn't read this thread too.
The street scenes with the blown out contrasts are exactly how the world looks when i walk outside under that sun tyrant.I watched Lain because it was part of /a/'s canon so i saved the anime without knowing why i should. Was told it was good, liked it well enough. 10 years later i connected to it and extracted its worth therefore i'm glad i thoughtlessly did what my elders told me to do. Thanks /a/ for all the Anime & Manga.
This anime is made of for anyone who is okay with Micron raising the price of hardwares.
>>289341234All that complaining and no discussion of your own to be found. I guess you're only smart enough to point out how stupid others are. I've never seen Lain by the way.
