Part 1 Denji is easily one of the best protagonists in shonen and the only reason why he gets a lot of shit from shonenfags is because he never gives into rage and isn't a white knight, so therefore he's boring/shallow/generic. Everything good about Chainsaw Man, every character that the fans adore for their writing and whatnot, all of this success is credited towards Part 1 Denji and how he interacts with the plot and its characters, a very rare occurrence in shonen where it's usually the other way around. There hasn't been a single shonen series this past decade that wouldn't be immediately more interesting if Part 1 Denji was its protagonist, and the distain surrounding him is embarrassing.
People might've hated him a lot less if Fujimoto didn't constantly draw him making the wazaaaaah face for no reason

>>289367446Dejni is best boy and Power is best girl in a way it's the perfect ending for the manga they end up as fuckbuddies
>>289367632Power doesn't wipe
>>289367661Denji wipes for her
>>289367446Would Denji save MHA?
>>289367446Interacting with a lot of the younger generation that partake in the anime, manga and LN medium I've noticed that there is a pattern where unless they can relate to the main character it's very hard for them to get invested into the media itself. Especially since the majority of the current content appeals to this methodology of self inserting. Yes, denji is unique in the sense that he's not like normal shounen protagonists, but compared to how we grew up with a somewhat positive outlook on life most people these days grow up exactly like denji. Broken with usually just one or two things that keep them going. That's why it's interesting to see someone of his caliber trying to shoulder such heavy responsibilities and ultimately failing. The ending in part 2 is basically telling you that denji does not deserve an ending because ultimately what actions did he take to improve himself and those around him? Everything that happens is due to pochita and without him denji would have just ultimately died in the prologue. It's basically a wake up call that if u don't actively change, don't expect a happy ending. For the record I don't like CSM at all but I found part 1 to be somewhat enjoyable due to the devil plot.
>>289367719I honestly think it's so weird how Denji is being seen as a relatable MC, there's really nothing relatable about him aside from being horny. A lot of people say he's relatable because he values simplicity in life instead of being some big shot hero, but this literally just isn't true at all for so many different reasons triple highlighted by Fujimoto, Denji wants to be the city mouse and wants to be the hero known as Chainsaw Man, and this doesn't even change even in Part 2. I thought the lack of his relatability was what people liked about him, it's so fucking weird. I feel like people aren't actually putting themselves in his shoes.
>>289367593>for no reasonthe reason is that it's funny.
>>289367719I wouldn't say I need to relate to the MC, but it's very hard for me to read a story where I don't give a single shit about the person the story revolves around in. It doesn't matter how good everything else is, I need to care about somebody. It's why SBR is my least favorite JoJo part, I fucking hated Gyro.
He's alright. Pretty good character arc with some nuances here and there. I wont call him a masterpiece but I wont exactly shit on you if you do so. Too bad part 2 kinda ruined it.
Yawn... going by the average chainsoy man fan's logic,>Bastard>City Hunter>Phantom Blood>Tekken Chinmi>Karakuri CircusAnd pretty much anything from 80s Shonen Jump mogs Shitjin

The only reason why people ever gave a shit about this cardboard cutout is because millennials and zoomers have been groomed into a culture of crab buckets and misery porn. Many people are no longer able to relate with let alone understand actual characters because that would require them to have actual beliefs and live in a functional society where the community is valued over the individual, hence why the protagonists from past decades were capable of feeling something and were essentially stewards of societal oriented standards.Of course in the modern late capitalist society that is no longer possible because social cohesion is all but gone and the entire cultural landscape is a trench filled to brim with grifters on the payroll of different robber barons that carefully engineered this social collapse so that they could rob and murder with impunity.Denji being a useless, disgusting, irredeemable piece of shit who can only think with a dick he'll never get to use is the perfect vehicle to elicit the same exact sort of emotion tiktok reels work on, the fact that he's vaguely popular is because he embodies the lack of values and beliefs of our current society AND the voyeuristic need to derive morbid pleasure from somebody else's misery and how they deserve it, this isn't a stroke of genius or something to be celebrated either, the glorification of apathetic human cattle, by apathetic human cattle is something you can get simply by browing youtube or twitter, it's a warning sign of how fundamentally broken our society is and not even a particularly intelligent or novel one.
>>289372116True. The entire manga is extremely mean spirited and nihilistic, why wallow in even more misery, especially if it's shonenshit...
>>289372116I feel like this is also emphasised how easily it is to distinguish if a 'relatable' character is designed to be an industry plant and/or aimed to bring in views instead of quality. If a main character is 23+ years old and has a trait that is relatable (i.e rejected by women often, social anxiety, trust issues etc etc) then you best believe the majority of modern audience would hate it no matter how realistic these traits are portrayed. But if the character is let's say 16-20 years old with those traits, people would love it since the design is made solely to give these characters a handout and a get away ticket in the end. And the modern audience loves that their romanticized suffering has a safety net. And it always comes in the shape of a female character who is designed to solely love the mc despite these flaws that also so happen to have long term consequences.Admittedly, Denji is not the worst one if we compare the hundreds of stories that do the same. But FUCKING HELL retards are desperate that their self insert needs some kind of female attention while withering away in reality.
>>289367446I get that he's different but that doesn't make it inherently good, I just found him boring. I get that he is someone who has missed out on a lot in life and there's some novelty (and maybe relatability) towards seeming someone like that but his trajectory is painfully dull.>i want something>i got it>now whatIt's just baby steps, it's something anyone could write. At least his motivation in part 2 is more interesting, trying to get found out for being csm. Also his horniness is reddit-tier shameful, it's that "uwu please step on me dommy mommy" that fags use to express lust but in a non threatening way. am i saying he should have raped? idk. but his desire never manifested any differently no matter what he went through. he also suffers the same problem as guts where due to the nature of the character he's just glorified muscle and has barely any agency in his own story.
>>289367446Theres nothing relatable about him at all. Please kill yourself if you think that. Maybe if you're spiritually Indian like Denjeet
>>289367812people just say (or more accurately repeat) words and come up with reasons afterwards. they just mean charming.
>>289372605Kaiba is a better character than anything Fujimoto wrote
