I can't watch any pointy chin anime for example. The other thing is that anime is only thought out only to the first half season and then when they get a purchase order for more, they scramble to make them and put them out in time, and this leads to a substantial drop in quality. You can tell by the padding and the pablum what the deal was. The key to enjoying anime is to not watch at all. In time, the best of the best will be good enough and you will not be so long winded in your frustration for your entertainment needs.
I will agree for the most part with OP.... no matter how good the art and animation is, it can't support bad writing. It's a storytelling medium at the end of the day.
