>>289378041Hot take: everything about Charles' "real plan," the "real truth" behind Marianne's supposed death, and the World of C is stupid.R2 actively becomes worse when it tries to twist itself into Sunrise YET AGAIN trying to copy Eva and ape Instrumentality. The secret twists were all stupid. Charles works much better if he's played completely straight and actually is a ruthless Darwinist whom Lelouch has good reason to hate. Marianne is better off actually dead. The mystery of how and why she was murdered was an excellent underlying motivation for Lelouch's exploits.And most of all, Code Geass works a whole lot better when it uses Britannia as a medium to explore Lelouch and Suzaku's competing visions of how to change the world. There's a good reason why the minute the World of C bullshit stops, and Lelouch crowns himself emperor, the show gets as good as the first season all over again. The woo woo bullshit with Charles/Marianne/VV/the World of C was an enormous and infurating distraction from what Code Geass as a franchise does best, and the show as a whole would have been better off without all of it.

I’d avoid elements like her being a ghost possessing Anya Alstreim or teaming up with C.C. to somehow help Charles. I’m not entirely against her being killed by V.V., since he’s a childish, jealous prick, but I’d like to see her presence felt in the afterlife—at least cheering on her son as much as her husband, who let her dieif not more even if she’s not anymore.
