I saw that the second season of HanaKimi made the same mistake as what I think is the official translation of the manga with this scene. Or maybe it's intentional to avoid having the character say he choked another character. This doesn't even make any sense. He says>絞めたEven without the kanji, strangling or choking is the only meaning that I can see that fits.

These days nobody respects that rule. It's particularly bad with platforms like Amazon or Netflix where their subtitle engine only supports SRT so they can't have multiple lines on screen with different timings, which means if there are multiple speakers overlapping or if there are signs that need to be translated they either get flashed for a split second or just completely ignored. It's a fucking farce.

Imagine my surprise when I finally get gud at Nip and take a look at the original raw line and realize the official localizers messed up so badly because they forgot to consider how Japanese is a highly contextual language and any term can have multiple meanings depending on the context and they just so happened to pick the wrong one, thereby misrepresenting the character and his motivation to the entire English-speaking fandom.AI can translate better than these monkeys, just learn Japanese.
