Done. Despite the slow decline, I enjoyed this manga a lot. All in all, not a bad case to end on. I'll admit, this is among the most ambitious dumps I've ever done, and it's be a relief to finally finish it.By the way, the best characters were Kogoro and Sera.

After watching the movie last year I got curious about the state of the manga, googled around a bit and checked out /a/ only to see a daily had just started. It was the perfect way to get into it again and I'm really thankful for it. Like I said, the quality has declined, but I don't think I could ever hate it. >>289448323>thoughts about the seriesI don't get why aoyama didn't finish the main story many many years ago. That doesn't mean they can't make new conan episodes. I mean, most of conan are just standalone cases anyway.
>>289449262It's hard to tell if the series would still produce that much money if he did. It's safer to just continue milking it.
People always act like Conan is impossible to catch up on, but when you think about it, 336 cases isn't all that many
>>289449251I don't even remember most of the Viz names because I kind of replace them in my mind with the original ones, but I've grown really fond of "Jimmychi" thanks to this daily.
>>289449362It's a very text-heavy manga though. Plus the way the story is structured, with only tiny, but still important bits of plot spread among so many chapters, I can see how people who aren't that serious about it have a hard time sticking to it.

Vermouth, I guess?>favorite BO operativeVodka>favorite caseAn anime filler one, where the victim is murdered in a locked up wine cellar. For some reason, it's the only one I remember watching when I was a kid, despite watching a lot of them on TV. I eventually stopped watching Detective Conan because all those murderers made me think someone was going to try an murder me too (so I also used to love when it wasn't a murder case)>Thoughts about the seriesReally fun, but it feels like earlier it was easier to deduce the different cases. It also helps when you watch the anime, since it goes slower and you have more time to think. I just hope it doesn't end up unfinished.
>>289449369For some reason I specially despise "Eva Kaden"
>>289449474I remember that case, too. Some of the early filler cases were indeed pretty good. For example the one where they introduced Kogoro's teacher, although I think he was only used that one time.
didn't expect the final case (as of now) to end in a bunch of Home Alone traps but here we are
this daily made me realise:1. the anime got A LOT of filler cases. i had no idea since i've been watching the dub since forever but never bothered with the manga.2. those filler cases are, surprisingly, no way worse than manga cases, at least as long the anime in general stays good. like the manga it slowly get worse and worse by time.3 some cases were actually better in the anime version than the manga one. shinichi clone, ones of my favourites, comes to mind.

>>289449523I personally hate "Harley Hartwell" the most, although I see how Viz tried to implement some of the sounds of the Japanese name."Booker" and "Vivian" for Yusaku and Yukiko are probably the objectively worst choices, but I realize names with Y are hard to come by. I suppose Yoshi and Yolanda Kudo would have been equally bad.

>>289446555Oh right, he did get him as a bodyguard.
>>289446565Towards the end I could feel a lot of the details of the ongoing plot stuff slipping since the manga comes out so sporadically, so this was a really good reminder for it.Hopefully fellow anons can keep it going with future dump threads too. This last case was pretty nice, except I guess Gosho really couldn't figure out how to make Ai's reveal to Agasa work in a way that makes sense. Why WOULD she just reveal it to someone she knows nothing about? I always figured she went there knowing who Agasa was.
This will be my first time being caught up with Conan, how do we know when a new case is coming out?Does Gosho have some kind of schedule, or is it just waiting for a random Sunday issue to say "conan chapter next week"?

Anything with motivated Kogoro is great, and this is the best example.Mystery Train murder for bringing so many of the moving parts that tend to be disconnected together.>Thoughts about the seriesI can understand why it's so popular. It's a comfort manga and I think I'm gonna keep following it after this.

>>289458323Each One Piece arc is very distinct, I've never understood the complaints.
>>289458364It is not, once you focus on the mechanics instead of the slightly different flavors Oda does. It's always a princess to be saved, it's always the group being split up and running, it's always a time race against some bomb-like event, it's always a big tease of "that thing" in "that place" that never gets resolved, it's always the same copy/pasted expressions.Once you realize that Oda puts more effort into making different kinds of laughter rather that making each arc different, you can't unsee it.
Sometimes I wonder if Sunday is planning for life after Conan ends. Or at least entertaining the idea of it ending.
>>289459567>It's always a princess to be savedWrong>it's always the group being split up and runningThis is like being upset about characters walking and speaking, it's nonsense>it's always a time race against some bomb-like eventNot as common as you imply, but has gotten a lot worse lately.>it's always a big tease of "that thing" in "that place" that never gets resolvedTrue, but many manga are guilty of this>it's always the same copy/pasted expressions.Partly true, though Oda does make new expressions every once in a while. Many of these are definitely elements that repeat in different arcs, but not every arc has every single one. Compared with Conan, in which 90% of the cases follow the exact same template and are almost never alluded to again, it's waaaay more varied.
>>289459567but even when it repeats itself it is a whole arc with new characters, lore and development while Conan 90% of cases are the same
I think the universe is procedurally generating three culprit candidates over and over just so Conan has something to do
>>289459113Kogoro has never figured out the technical aspect of a case without somebody giving him a hint.
>>289459567Even if we assume you're 100% correct and that every arc is the same in OP, you also have to remember each arc is 50-100 chapters long, while each case of Conan is almost always only 3 chapters long. You've seen the same arc in OP 10 times, while you've seen the same case in Conan over THREE HUNDRED (300) times.
>>289459113>pre-nerfwhat happened to him
>all smart people are detectivesWhy is Gosho like this
>>289460174He did in that one case where the murderer pre-recorded a call from her husband to fake an alibi, and he was the one dropping a hint so Eri could solve it.
>>289460320Deduction skills are this series' version of power levels.
>>289446356Crazy to think it took this long for her end game romance but okay
>>289460349Oh yeah, that was pretty impressive. Still, it fits into the general pattern where he doesn't solve every part of the case and only has an advantage when it comes to things he has personal experience with. If you put Kogoro at his best in A+ tier you would have to put Heiji at his best into S since he figures out cases down to the last detail faster than Shinichi sometimes.
Are they doing a movie on youtube again tonight? They forgot to turn subs on for the last one kek
>>289446565Who says you’re finished, you gotta come back in 5 years to continue the journey. Series isn’t dead yet.
>>289462462That reminds me, has last year's movie been subbed yet?
>>289459113We've truly only seen motivated Kogoro like four times, and even in his big motivated moment (Kogoro's Class Reunion) he still needed hints from Conan. I'm sorry man, I love the guy, but he's B tier. Heiji also used to be inferior to Conan/Shinichi but nowadays they're exactly at the same level. Even when going against each other (restaurant murder with salty/spicy dialect) they end in a stalemate. I'd say Sera is comparable to Eisuke and Yamato, and I'd dare to say that Koumei is better than Yamato, so Yamato should go down a tier. Kid wasn't in the tier, I'd say he should be Conan tier.

Next case on September 15th!
The next Detective Conan movie for me is Zero the Enforcer. I just can't take Bourbon's/Amuro/Zero voice seriously, it just feels like I'm listening to Amuro Ray again. Same for Akai, it's just the Char voice again.

>>289459113That's the detective powerlevel tier list, but what about the power powerlevel tier list?
>>289468537kogoro looks weird without mustache
>>289474383You mean like fighting prowess? One can only really guess, as a lot of characters were not in situation to fight, or their fights don't really show how they would compare to other characters. DC is after all a detective mystery, flexing brains is most important.

>>289446565It's been a long year for me and I don't want to blogpost too much but thanks for being here with us! I think I'll always love Detective Conan no matter the highs and lows.
The matsuda wank and dead irrelevant cop flashbacks are annoying and worthless but not as bad as people said. I’m guessing that’s because I haven’t seen the anime and any of the movies. Right now, their appearances seem to be only limited to Chihaya chapters. Feel bad for Jugo if he ends up with her, he’ll always be second to a dead man. At least Sato got over her crush and is happy with Takagi.
>>289475333Proper dead cops wank was in that case with little Shinichi and Ran (and spin off manga, and movies), while I think it's more of a Chihaya wank in cases where she appears. Cool guy Matsuda is reduced to horny teenager in a flashback, while tough guy Jugo is reduced to awkward romantic interest in current time, so that perfect and cool as a cucumber Chihaya always has a male admirer, while her friend provides the pseudo-yuri angle.
>>289445984Congrats! I only followed for a ~15 volume stretch in the middle (my interest in conan comes and goes), but I'm amazed someone was able to do it all.
>>289462549 (me)Apparently yes it has, looks like I can procrastinate job hunting for a few more hours
>>289476571It's not a good movie, though, the longer it goes on, the more it feels like it was made for audience with almost non-existent attention span.
why doesn't police just cordon off the entire beika to catch the organization?
>>289476668Police is not aware BO exists, only the secret intelligence agencies. Kuroda is also an agent, his presence in police might indicate they suspect a mole.Even if they knew, BO is most certainly not limited to Beika, or even Japan. A direct attack would make them retaliate, with bombs and god knows what else they have. Between that and the panic that would spread among citizens, there would be helluva lot of casualties.

>>289480256In Magic Kaito, Jii has an old professor friend that fixed Kaito's bike. The anime goes even further in this scene by showing us a yellow Beetle driving off. And I faintly remember Agasa mentioning a bartender friend somewhere.
>>289474383Makoto is canonically the strongest fighter in the series.Akai is mostly known for firearms, but as Suguru he proves he's proficient in hand to hand combat as well. These are the only ones who never "lost" a fight.>>289480021is mostly right, there also not-Shiinichi who beats Heiji with a wooden sword, and Rei who can most likely solo anyone beside Akai (certainly he can hold with civilians, and there's no way Gosho lets Ran win against him), and of course Makoto as well.

Just watched movie 28 and felt it was pretty weak, especially the culprit's motivation. Also I don't think radio observatories and their lasers work like this
>>289504974I've seen them all up to this one, and I claim it's the worst so far. Looks like a haphazardly written script, where majority of effort seemed to have gone into animating technology, avalanche, and Conan's superhuman snowboarding abilities. Real shame Komei's first movie appearance was in it, he is character for clever mind games and proper drama, not this action piece with boring info dumps.
>>289505116The side characters in these movies always get kind of shafted unless their name is Akai or Amuro (speaking of which, it seems like Amuro just works full time at Poirot and never actually does any work for the PSB or BO) but honestly I don't really care for the Nagano trio anyway. Komei's smug Three Kingdoms gimmick is kinda cringe, and Yui and Kansuke are too busy with their NTR drama. Oh, and I didn't think we really needed another avalanche movie after Quarter of Silence
>>289505205Amuro is doing very important work of analyzing the shape of Azusa's butt in jeans. That information could potentially save the world. The story how Yamato was injured in avalanche should have honestly been a flashback part of a case in manga, considering it was first mentioned there, and movies are actually considered non-canon until proven otherwise. I dropped Conan around the time of the Nue case, now I'm convinced that I didn't miss out much. I think the constant push of trying to make me care about these new characters (especially the motorbike cop) is having the opposite effect,
So I know the creator dismissed Agasa as the boss of the Black Organization and while we know the boss name is Karasuma but I think its a case of people figured out the answer early thing and he is still my pick for the current identity of Karasuma.
>>289519234Nah, Agasa is pure unadulterated kindness. He never asks for anything in return. How is he going to be the leader of a secret organizations who murders dozens of people? What even would be his objective, considering he's already pretty rich?

>>289522023You never saw any color pages in manga?Anime is actually not the best source of hair colors, not only do they keep changing shades (Ai's hair is sometimes more reddish, sometimes it leans more towards yellowish), but some characters, like Gin, initially had a wrong hair color.

>>289534802Awesome. You can count on me to follow it all the way through.
>>289538131I've said it before, but I was really surprised when I read the English translation and it explicitly said marijuana. I might be remembering it wrong but when I read it years ago in German it wasn't specified and kept a mystery, which was much more atmospheric I think, considering marijuana isn't exactly known for putting you into a schizophrenic killing spree.
>>289538320I first saw the case in the anime as a kid and didn't know what marijuana was so I thought it sounded badass and scary, especially with Conan's Japanese accent pronouncing it.
>>289538131is just that the last cases had a lot of criminals being weed dealers which is something i dont remember from earlier cases
>>289538320I think one English translation added in a "...laced with something else..." line just to make it slightly more believable to an audience that factually knows weed isn't a powerful hallucinogenic stimulant
