Will always be his best ending. The fact that Bouya doesn't appear again, the only thing close is a silhouette in a spin-off, is what truly cements it. It got the right feeling of melancholy at the end of a series.

There were issue with the finale. But it was a good ending as a whole. I love it when a big final arc that contains too many characters connect them in such a manner. But most of all it was great to see that Sugimoto and Asirpa remained such good friends as the author decreed.

Okay, but how do you actually make a good ending? And what even means good besides it making you FEEL good? If you make a positive ending, then it's cheesy. If you make a bad ending, it's edgy miseryporn. If you make a bittersweet ending "something good but you also lose something", it's cliche. If you make a "nothing ever happens" ending, it feels unsatisfying and incomplete.I nowadays gravitate toward "nothing ever happens" endings because I appreciate realism, as long as there were at least some major developments or resolutions prior to that. I like it when there's a longer stable tail showing where the story ended up at. When a story cuts off right at the ending, it's often lazy, like the writer is running away to not have to deal with the consequences of the last plot point, which would reveal the flaws of the ending.
