Hard to say. I enjoyed the earlier arcs a lot because they stayed western enough, while the later focus a lot on random sengoku battles which makes it a bit harder to get interested in. Also not a fan of the Speers in general.

The fan translations are pretty solid, they also get better as it goes along so if they seem a bit iffy at first keep going. I'd suggest starting from 1-A even though the anime covered 1-A, 1-B, 2-A, and 2-B since there is some extra to them including a few things that help make understanding things a lot easier.
