It's probably the single most common recurring theme throughout the entire story. Even before the ending there's scenes like Rudy telling Ariel he doesn't feel powerful, that if he could use his magic to solve his family problems he'd maybe agree that he was. You're basically beaten over the head with this message but somehow some people still don't get it.
