>>289518711Most oldfags are still bitter about the ending, and put off newfags from picking up the series or continuing with the manga if they're anime onlies. >>289520186OP, or the anon in question, is unaware of there being a board for such content >>>/c/.It's been years since the last Urabe thread, so I'm sure a dump would be welcome there.
>>289518711I read the manga a long time ago and I watched the anime like a month ago.I had this mandela effect notion that urabe was confirmed to be an alien in the manga. I guess it's a pretty easy conclusion to draw to but it's kinda weird that I was so sure of it being the case.
It was fun but the ending sucked
I wish they still designed girls like this, and with the classic serafuku.
>>289520683I still don't understand why people hate the ending. Even on a surface level you're basically complaining that "I was promised to see them have sex and reach some ultimate conclusion" when that's a really shallow complaint that ignores the author's actual intentions. Even on a shallow reading it's probably one of the most competent romance manga ever made, it applies tropes and subverts them expertly. But beyond that as far as I can tell the real ideas behind the manga is that it's psychosexual exploration perhaps influenced by jung or other psycho-analysts. If you read dream chasers he mentions jungian sand play and seems to explore other archetypal stuff along those lines like the perfect hermaphrodite. The theme of ookumo-chan flashback is your relationship to your parents (what does your parents relationship say about you), yume tsukkai is more about the self which is why it especially goes after dreams. In mysterious girlfriend x, Urabe is an anima character that Tsubaki begins to integrate and grow with. It's all suggestive. It is "hinted" that she's an alien but she herself explicitly says she isn't. Real girls already are weird. Of course, Urabe is intentionally unrealistic for the most part. She's simply too cool with too many boundaries and intelligence and creativity. She represents more like the unconscious. MGX is an extremely competent surface level romance story with deeper ideas that are worth thinking about.
>>289518711Urabe a cute, but I prefer Oka
>>289523012That page in particular is what comes to mind when someone makes the argument of the ending being shit, or lacking catharsis. I hadn't thought to look at the story, or any of the author's other works, under a psychoanalytic lens. What are some concepts or literature I should read up to find any connections made? Whether they're intentional, or purely incidental. >Real girls already are weirdI suppose the initial concept of her being an ayy lmao was scrapped in favor of a more mundane allusion to the differences between the sexes, and its exacerbation during one's youth and during one's first relationship.
>>289523265I'm currently attempting to write a review about this. He mentions what books he's been reading throughout the manga so I've been looking been looking back through and writing them down among other things. It just sort of clicked for me one day after pouring over his other manga. His detailed dream landscapes, obsession with material culture, the concepts that he covers in his manga. I really don't know much about jung I intend to read a few books, he could have gotten it from some other psycho-analyst or something I'm not sure. He definitely likes movies like kubrick and history, he references strange love and 2001 a space odyssey in MGX as posters and a name for a train in the dream.
>>289523012They didn't kiss which was weird. And it burned out it's gimmick pretty quick.
>>289520683I dropped the manga during the movie arc, holy shit that dragged on forever.
Personally I just want to know what her pubes are like
>>289523324>I'm currently attempting to write a review about thisSounds like a potentially interesting read. Do you have a personal website, or do you just plan on making a post here or on some forum?

I honestly wish he kept doing drugs until the end of this series. As soon as he went sober he didn't have the balls to complete the original intention.

>>289518711I actually read it just last month. Easily one of my favourite romance manga.I love Youko. She's such a sweetheart.
>>289525843Uh oh, sexless simp
>>289518711Yeah, it's great, only midwits hate it
>>289525843>didn't tag the postcoward
>>289525619There's an implied resolution in that Urabe's relationship with Tsubaki parallels (in some part) Youko's relationship with her boyfriend back during her schooldays. While Youko's relationship with her boyfriend was serious, it ultimately fell through due to distance and tapering communication, even though they were arguably closer and slightly further along in their relationship (affection-wise) than Urabe and Tsubaki's. Urabe makes the proclamation to Youko that she'd like to continue being with Tsubaki. She also mentions at some point wanting a sister like her too. The main pair's bond goes beyond physical skinship, and sometimes even surpasses it through Urabe's weird acts of intimacy. There's also the fact that the author resolves the question of the future of their relationship--albeit, in a rather half-assed way--in Ookumo-chan flashback, by having the pair parodied by two characters part of a manga within the series. That, I will admit, was a mistake. He could have just done a canon one page resolution in a similar vein desu.>>289525919The whole "THEY DIDN'T HAVE SEX, SO IT SUCKS!" argument just comes off as low-brow complaints from sex pests. There are many issues with the series--as with most other romance series--yet the matter of them not having had sex by the series' end just seems like an odd fixation on a set of lines that were made in the one-shot. The author should've used an entirely different set of lines, seeing as how it would come back to bite him in the ass. Actually, I'm curious what the original Japanese text says (though I assume it's more or less the same).>>289525644He (probably) didn't do drugs, he just got old.
>>289523427Really? I read it in one sitting. Quite a thrilling arc imo.
>>289526826You can't read it in one sitting if you're reading the chapters as they release, you mongoloid.
>>289526848Ah, I see. Yeah, reading ongoing romance manga is a drag. So go binge MGX. It's good.
>>289526192Just one question; Did they ever kiss in the manga?
