Given how Ghost in the Shell has gotten shows based more on the manga despite how incredible the 1997 movie was, would a show that adapts the entire Akira manga work or would it be ignored due to how groundbreaking the movie was?

Comparisons to the movie are inevitable and the movie was already lightning in a bottle. It would take an eccentric billionaire funding the whole thing pro bono and hiring a team of equally passionate artists to do it justice.

Otomo just a few months ago opened a new studio to finally get his Orbital Era film off the ground so maybe they'll get on with the Akira TV anime after that. I know it was originally meant to be made at Sunrise but it could've fallen through considering how long it's been.
