We all remember this scene from the end where Rei appears as Ritsuko to her and well logically most viewers came to the conclusion that she's a lesbian.Now, if took those yuri-tinted glasses off for a moment, could it be possible that Maya holds Ritsuko, as her boss and chief scientist, in deep respect and stuff like that? Oh man, I'm re-wtaching to prep for the End of Eva screening, and man Asuka is so obnoxious. Rei is so much better.Was the show written with the mindset initially that Rei was sthe love interest, then they made her a clone of Shinji's mom so they changed it? Rei is such a big deal in the early eps, and gets a lot of scenes and says many things. Then she just becomes the background character who says little. The idea of Rei being quiet comes from her latter episodes after Ep 8. And it feels it becomes the Asuka-Shinji show after this. Man I can't stand this rat. I can't understand how anyone would want to be around someone so abbrasive. >>289530842I'm less annoyed by that, I mostly gripe that it's clearly a show for 14 year olds so it is filled with humor and teenage interactions. When it goes sci-fi drama it is going for 2001 and it mostly works. Also there's entire scenes and imagry taken from 2001 which barely gets mentioned by the fanbase. NGE steals a lot from Toku and anime series, which overlaps with the fans so they tend to pick up on that more, but not the live action films.

Is Rei an Angel?Why does rei go along with the plans instead of telling Gendo to buzz off? She goes along with Third Impact, but only defies his will to be the leader and instead opts for Shinji. So she gains some independnence from her experiences in the show, but not that? Her goal as an Eva pilot was to stop this very thing!Is Kawaru an angel like Rei?

I think the show's story and setting were re-arranged a lot during production. Toji actually gets a lot of attention before ep 8, and you see him on the damn center of the promo art all set up in a plug suit. That he even ends up getting into an Eva is something most of the fanbase probably has forgotten about. It's very weird that he's introduced very early, given a lot of focus, then fades to the background, then becomes a pilot, then is injured and never seen again.Seele stops appearing as people but sound only Monoliths, which again seems like a shift in plans. The monoliths are cooler, and fit the tone rather than a bunch of dorky looking guys, but it's jarring they stop showing up to VR meetings after a few eps in person, and go sound only. Rei also seems like she's setup to be Shinji's life-partner but then Asuka steals the show from her. I could go on and on. I feel things were changed a lot in pre-production from initial plans.

All of this was changed for episode 24 and EoE, the giant was always here and it was actually called Lilith, and Adam was still an embryo, Kaworu was also originally not Adam but a proper humanoid angel called Tabris, Anno made the lore extremely confusing by the end.
